I am going to start taking propranolol for migranes.I do not want to gain weight...?
I will be taking up to 60mg a day (starting at 40. taking pill 2 then 3 times a day). One thing I do not want, as I am sure many don't, is a weight gain.
I recently lost some and am trying hard to lose a few more and keep it off.
For those who have been on it, can you tell me your experience with it?
Thanks!

Propranolol (Inderal), a beta blocker does not cause weight gain...a side effect is actually loss of appetite.
EDIT: I know several people who have taken it & none gained weight, but one became depressed.

Weight gain can occur as a side effect of some beta blockers, especially the older ones, such as atenolol (Tenormin) and metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol-XL). The average weight gain is between 2 and 4 pounds (0.9 and 1.8 kilograms). Newer beta blockers, such as carvedilol (Coreg) and nebivolol (Bystolic), are not associated with weight gain. Ask your doctor if it is possible to switch on the latter types.

If you are afraid of taking propranolol ,because of gaining weight. Why don't you try a alternitive medication. Some people I know taking that medication gain a few extra pounds.
