What is the significance of Peter being The Rock upon which the Church was built upon?

Scripture reveals this Church to be the one Jesus Christ built upon the rock of Saint Peter (Matt. 16:18). By giving Peter the keys of authority (Matt. 16:19), Jesus appointed Peter as the chief steward over His earthly kingdom (cf. Isaiah. 22:19-22). Jesus also charged Peter to be the source of strength for the rest of the apostles (Luke 22:32) and the earthly shepherd of Jesus' flock (John 21:15-17). Jesus further gave Peter, and the apostles and elders in union with him, the power to bind and loose in heaven what they bound and loosed on earth. (Matt. 16:19; 18:18). This teaching authority did not die with Peter and the apostles, but was transferred to future bishops through the laying on of hands (e.g., Acts 1:20; 6:6; 13:3; 8:18; 9:17; 1 Tim. 4:14; 5:22; 2 Tim. 1:6).
By virtue of this divinely-appointed authority, the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture (what books belong in the Bible) at the end of the fourth century. We therefore believe in the Scriptures on the authority of the Catholic Church. After all, nothing in Scripture tells us what Scriptures are inspired, what books belong in the Bible, or that Scripture is the final authority on questions concerning the Christian faith. Instead, the Bible says that the Church, not the Scriptures, is the pinnacle and foundation of the truth (1 Tim. 3:15) and the final arbiter on questions of the Christian faith (Matt. 18:17). It is through the teaching authority and Apostolic Tradition (2 Thess. 2:15; 3:6; 1 Cor. 11:2) of this Church, who is guided by the Holy Spirit (John 14:16,26; 16:13), that we know of the divine inspiration of the Scriptures, and the manifold wisdom of God. (cf. Ephesians 3:10).
Matt. to Rev. - Peter is mentioned 155 times and the rest of apostles combined are only mentioned 130 times. Peter is also always listed first except in 1 Cor. 3:22 and Gal. 2:9 (which are obvious exceptions to the rule).

The name Peter means a small piece of a rock, not a rock as Christ said upon which He built the church. It was the statement of Christ being the Son of God. That is the rock statement.

the only problem I easily have with it somewhat is the undeniable fact that when the apostles have been being killed off they did not have time to regather and hire new apostles, to take their place. Linus became into in no way nor ought to in no way be appointed to the apostleship. the entire residing quorum might might desire to assemble and "forged lots" on who the subsequent might desire to be - unanimously at that. Then he might have been on the backside of seniority. John the loved/Revelator has in no way died, so their isn't any way that the Apostleship might have been given to Linus. it is is likewise extremely obtrusive that the Catholic church isn't the actual church with the help of various biblical obviosities. So its priesthood is apostate and unfaithful. Making any branch off of it additionally unfounded on the Rock. Proving that there is not any church on the face of the earth which has any authority to do the bidding of God except of direction the "Mormons" are suitable and Joseph Smith observed Jesus Christ and God the father, had Peter, James, and John supply him the priesthood and then restarted the unique Church of Jesus Christ returned. The Rock is Jesus Christ and no one else. Revelation is the technique of the church homes governance. Altho the pope has a extra useful leg to stand on then the different Christian faith.

There is none because the Church is built upon Jesus Christ.
In Matthew 16:18, Jesus says, "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
The name Peter is translated from the Greek for a small rock or stone (petra). The word "rock" in the middle of the verse is "Petras" which means a huge boulder or large crag of rock. Thus, Jesus was speaking of Himself as the builder of the Church.
Catholics lay claim to that as Peter being the first Pope and that upon Peter the church would be built. That is a false claim which is found by a simple examination of the translation of petra and Petras.

most people and churches mis read this...Christ is talking to Peter about revelation, which is the rock upon which the church should be built.
go back and read it both ways and see which one seems right to you, it is pretty obvious to me what He is saying
this makes sense because revelation means that Christ is still leading His church by inspiration of His leaders and people here on earth. The spirit of revelation is something He could build His church on

Another example of the lies the bible and christianity has spread.
Jesus is the rock. The rock of God's true religion. The religion of Love.
Not peter the liar, peter the fake.
God is Love, Love is God.
Trust Love.
Peace, love, calm and positivity to all.

Peter was not the rock Christ built his church on.Read on and Christ rebukes Peter. Peter was not a rock because he denied Christ three times. No one is in second command to God. We are in Christ's church and he and he alone is the head.

This link explains how many Protestants incorrectly say "Look at the Greek, that shows how the Catholic interpretation is wrong." Well, look past the Greek to the original Aramaic and see what it really says.
