Are medical pressure points the same as the pressure points used for martial arts??
For example, this is a medical pressure point chart used for first aid.http://www.tpub.com/content/neets/14191/img/14191_...

A pressure point is where an artery passes over a bone. When you press on them they cause great pain. In medicine they can be used to reduce or stop blood flow to prevent someone from hemorrhaging to death.

I don't think that it would be common for carpenters (or religious teachers) from that time to take up a martial art as a hobby or pastime - especially in a land that is technically under foreign occupation. Besides, most of the martial arts we know today wouldn't have been formalized then. Still, traditional folk wrestling (I guess every culture has this, right?) may be one style He might have dabbled in.

I think you are talking about pressure points and trigger points. The former are anatomical places where the muscles converge and nerves are exposed. These are the places that you use against people in martial arts. Trigger points are something different entirely. Trigger points are areas within one muscle where soreness and edema (fluid) collects. These are your sore spots you get from training, working all day, etc. These are the areas that massage therapists hit so well.

There is a lot of overlap but they are not identical. Martial arts points are usually neural ganglia where pressure can cause pain or numbness. These also have medical uses but there are others that are more about opening up the chi or stimulating certain organs.

The meridians and points are the same.
It's the theoretical science that is used differently. For instance, 5 element theory and Yin Yang theory.
None of the other answers above are even close to accurate, so don't heed them.

Yup. Those are a few of the pressure points. There are dozens more for hurting and healing. Most of them are the same points (one that can be damaged with a hard strike can alleviate pain with a gentle manipulation).

in pressure point fighting or dim mak, pressure points are broken into 2 catagories. one for martial arts and one for healing
the ones used for martial arts cause pain, and numbness
the ones for healing numb the pain and promote blood flow
HOWEVER,
many points used in martial arts are also used in healing
the deadliest pressure point cn also save ones life
Its not the pressure points its how you use it
