Why I Am An Atheist.

As an atheist my view on religion may not be something will like to read, this is a document I typed up on my computer and have saved on my hard drive so that I can copy and paste it to yahoo answers for questions about religion. In this document I addresse all relevant points I commonly get debated on.

The concept and beliefs of religion are laughable to me, and i consider anyone gullible enough to believe in it beneath me. This is why...

Religion is a large problem in the world, they have distorted morals and change there interpretation to suit the argument, religious people have no interest in having a serious debate, all they want to do is prove there point at any cost. Religion is a simple but effective tool, the reason religion was started was to seek power and control over the masses, the way it works is when a religion has enough followers they start to have control... when enough people believe in one particular religion, it then gives this religion a chance to challenge the government and they can start to try to push there ideas and morality on to others by affecting laws and policys.

The reason most atheists hate religion is because it is apparent to us just how stupid it is. If you are wondering what the bible sounds like to an atheist... it is something like this:

In the beginning there was nothing, then go made the earth in 6 days and rested on the 7th, he needed a rest because making planets is hard work, and you cant help but feel sorry for him considering how many planets there is in the universe. After god made the earth he then gathered some mud and made a mud man, after he had made the mud man he ripped out one of its ribs and made a mud woman from it, after he made the mud people he named them, one called Adam and one called Eve, he then made a garden paradise for them and told them they can do anything they wanted to except eat apples from one special tree, however a snake convinced them to eat the apple... when god found out he banished them from paradise and left and angel to guard it so they could not get back in, this some how insinuating that there is still a paradise some place on earth today guarded by this angel. Strange that we have not found it, after the mud man and mud woman were banished from paradise they had children. One called Cain and one called Able, Cain killed able bucease his offer to god of fruits was not good enough but Cains offer of a helpless lamb was accepted, so after Cain bashes his brothers brains in god finds out and gets pissed off so he banished Cain (even more banished that Adam and Eve)... so Cain goes off and comes acros a magic town that appeared from no ware. He finds a wife and has some kids, WOW! god is really evil, if you eat fruit he will make you ashamed of your ball sack and will turn all the animals in to cannibals but if you bash your brothers brains in you get sent to a magic town that appeared from no ware to have sex and find a wife.

After some time had passed people started to say screw god, we dont need god... so god decided humans are a bad idea and sends a flood to kill everyone except this old guy and his wife on a boat and all the animales they had collected, Noah could do this cause he is super special and he can build a boat at the same time that he travels the planet to get penguins, koalas, elephants and all the others of millions of types of animals that there is.

Here are some questions...

If Adam is black and Eve is White, ware do oriental people and arabs come from?

If Adam is white and Eve is oriental, ware do blacks and arabs come from?

Religion is bad, religion is the cause of most war, all the science and evidence in the world proves that there is no god and that the bilble is false. If there was a giant world wide flood we would be able to see evidence of it in the layers of the ground, we have DNA and evolution as well as many other facts... now I know what most religious people will say. Evolution is only a theory, but it is a scientific theory. There is also a thing called the theory of gravity, but things still fall to the ground when you drop them. There is germ theory, but people still get sick. And there is the theory of electromagnetism, but magnets still attract. A scientific theory is not a guess. The theory of gravity is a theory and a fact.

Religion is detrimental to our progress as a race and is generally damaging to truth, reason and logic. Putting aside evidense and proof in favour of mythology and stupid storys that not even a half inteligent child would believe.

Have they really "proven without doubt" that evolution is how we're all here ?

Evolution theory, that's what they call it. Theory is not facts, not truth. It's an opinion.

Evolution is an evolving from one life form to another. Where is the in between, the link ? They're still missing.

That dinosaurs existed is no theory, it's a fact. The evidence is the bones found.

That's in line with Genesis: "And God went on to say '...let flying creatures fly over the earth...And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about..." Gen 1:20,21.

The existence of dinosaurs does not prove evolution, it supports creation.

First of all, I think you should get your facts straight. Theories on the origin of life nor evolution has not yet been pr oven. check on my resources for the websites. As to the age of dinosaurs determined through radiocarbon-14 dating, its use is questionable due to inaccuracy.

This is because of inherent problems in the process. One of them is that it assumes that carbon-14 remains the same in the atmosphere as well as the rate of decay. this however is not pr oven to be true. The reason they presumed it constant is because they do not have any way of determining the amount and rate of decay at the time that the sample existed. today the amount of Carbon -14 in the atmosphere has been found to be increasing since first measured in the fifties. Another problem is contamination, the older the sample the more impractical to measure. Next is the dating method that rely on the geologic column dictated by archeology and not on actual results. We just can't ignore facts.

In the absence of a reliable scientific time line of creation, where else can we go; the bible has a time line that we can follow.

As to the fossils, if the theory of evolution is flawed whereby they say dinosaurs came to exist, and the process whereby its age are known is flawed as well, how could they have existed? Might be a hoax! Don't you think its about time that we stop relying on unproven methods and theories?

But see that's the thing, they haven't proven it without a doubt, or it would be a law. They cannot prove it without a doubt, unless we can go back in time, and watch these creatures evolve with out own two eyes. We can see minor changes, moths over a period of a few years change the color of their wings to better match the background of the trees that are most prevalent in the area, but that's natural selection, something related, but still different. its the basis of evolution, but evolution itself, because the moth hasn't turned into a different creature. its still a moth.

As for the dinosaurs, the fundies believe they are here as a test of their faith or some such nonsense. Even if evolution was proven true, there would still be people claiming its fake. These people still think the world is flat, even though if you bring them in an airplane you can see the curvature of the earth.

I cannot agree.

The Bible has dates and times written throughout, which, when added together tells us the approximate date of creation was 4004BC.

The findings of the scientists must be flawed in some way.

To accept evolution and old age for Earth goes against what the Bible has said, and the Bible, though written by men, IS the inspired word from God to men. God does not lie, ever. Men make errors, but never does God make an error.

What Tony said. If you believe scientists have proven evolution, your definition of proof is lacking.

Are you willing to believe that the Bible could be CORRECT? If not, aren't you being hypocritical?

I think you'r a little miss informed, and probably beleive what you are told is science whithout understanding it.

Evolution is an all-encompassing word, which makes it very easy to be misled. “Evolution is slow changes over time”, is one of the most popular explanations. Its always shown in the form of micro evolution, which is changes in creatures within their genetic code, for example a great dane and a chihuahua and a wolf are all breeds of Dog. This means that they came from the same gene pool, their basic design pattern is the same and the differences are in the selection of traits, such as size, colour, length of limbs temperament etc. the genetic code does not take on some kind of new design information it simply takes choices from those existing. This is true in Darwin’s finches, its true in all animal kinds, and its true for us humans from midgets to giants, and from white to black. No one is better or more evolved than the other. Design information for each Kind is all from the same gene code. There are outside forces that sometimes cause these switches to take place, Isolated breeding, climates, altitudes, natural disasters, and some natural selection. Mutations can also take place like missing limbs, extra limbs, malfunctioning glands, etc these are called negative mutations. It is still taught however that positive mutations occur ie, new designs can accidentally come into existence within the genetic code and slowly get improved upon until they become a complete intricate functioning design, eg; the eye or wings, However this is hopeful philosophy. Every part in the make up of every system in every creature comes from design information already in its genetic code. Quoted proofs for evolutionary theory fall into one of these categories; Proving natural selection, Proofs for mutations ( loss, duplication, or mixing up of existing information), Conclusions sited as facts, & Philosophical Conjectures, foundational only if you have a humanistic World view ( A religious acceptance of naturalism, ie denial of anything beyond 3 dimensions), Which is obviously a Philosophical Paradigm.

Darwin neither new or dreamed that there could be a genetic code of design that every living part needs to be formed. He postulated that a small bump could be passed on and on through offspring and be added too every now and again and eventually become an eye without any design, through natural selection ie (that trait helping the creature live when all others died).

The accepted idea in the GTE was that a simple cell was formed in the pre mordial soup (rain on rocks for millions of years) and that started us all off. (The living cell however is more complex in design than the space shuttle, but how was Darwin to know that in the 1800's), and of-course rock and water don’t have DNA.

To believe in Darwin’s evolution however you must first believe that the above changes in animal kinds can go beyond the genetic code. This is called Macro evolution and is actually only conjecture, not real science. Only micro evolution and speciation is real science.

I would ask you can something come from nothing, or could it come from something we don’t see or understand. Do chemicals go up the scale or down? Is design information introduced when we grow our technology (of-course it is). Yet we call it evolution…and it is…we see new information all the time.But what you are asked to believe in many of the conjectures in the General theory of evolution is not real evolution. This is why I say it confuses people.

Generally people show you their conclusions and call them evidence. You would do very well to understand the difference between evidence and peoples conclusions, and also learn creation science from creation scientists not your evolution teacher or religiously zealot evolutionists. You need to look at the facts in front of us all and learn to make good analytical conclusions, preferably unbiased.

Myth 1: Christians do not believe in evolution.

This is not true. Many Christians believe in evolution, and have accepted it as part of God's plan. I'm one of them.

Myth 2: Christians do not believe in dinosaurs.

Nearly all Christians believe in dinosaurs, though some believe that dinosaurs and man roamed the Earth at the same time. I'm not one of them.

Myth 3: Christians believe the Earth was literally created in a six day period, 6-10,000 years ago.

Some still believe that. However, most don't.

It isn't that we believe the Bible is incorrect, nor do we have to believe that it is in order to accept science. I don't believe it is incorrect. I just believe that Genesis was not meant to be interpreted literally. Most Christians worldwide hold to that belief.

A messianic Jew is a Jew that believes that Jesus is the Messiah. Christians and Messianic Jews believe that Jesus is the Messiah. They are Jews. The point of view of the anti Messianice Jews is best summed up by Mark JPAS when he said "it is acceptable to blend some degree of foreign spiritual elements with Judaism. The one exception is Christianity, which is perceived to be incompatible with any form of Jewishness. This is the double standard that is applied to Christianity even though Jesus is considered the Jewish Messiah in Christianity. Messianic Jews are looked at with even greater disdain. Why? its a cover for there own deviations from Judaism. Some Jews need to maintain a connection to Jewish family because they have deviated so much from traditional Judaism that many Orthodox question their Jewishness. They need find some way to distract attention because of there deviation from the Torah. This is done by pointing their finger at others to direct attention away from their own actions. You can't give yourself a title and expect that it makes you something. This is the argument that has been used against Jews that decide that Jesus is the Messiah. We are told that the mere belief of a different nature of God immediately invalidated a Jews Jewishness. At the same time Jews that become atheists, pantheists or stop practicing any element of their religion we are told are still Jews. They say that you can believe in anything but Jesus. Jews call conversion "joining the tribe". Things that would never fly in Orthodox or for that matter Messianic Judaism can be found in the Reform and Reconstructionist movements. A good example of this is a previous question asked here. The person asking worshiped the God Ferris but did not believe in him or the Jewish God. The focus of the question was" ...would you PERSONALLY feel comfortable welcoming me not just as a fellow congregant at your Synagogue, but as a member of the Tribe?" (so he was clearly asking about converting to Judaism). The response was "Reform Judaism covers a wide swath of beliefs and practices and I am sure you will be wholly accepted. ... I personally would accept you whole heartily as a fellow Jew." So some Jews will accept all kinds of deviations from the Torah but not belief in "Jesus". Let's not forget the Reform movement wanted to change the sabbath to Sunday to be more like Christianity. Most Messianic Jews are Torah observant yet you can become an atheist, stop practicing their faith, become a Buddhist, join a Unitarian Church and still be a Jew in the eyes of Reform/Reconstructionist Jews. Most Orthodox when asked about other Jews will say they don't know what non Orthodox Jews are. The same applies to the other sects. Speaking of sects Jews will tell you there are no sects but its not true. Rabbinical Jews follow an understanding of their faith that was established 1,900 years ago. They have their own canon of Scripture. There are also non Rabbinical Jews such as the Ethiopian Jews that follows the pattern of the Christian Old Testament and they have many additional books that they consider to be scripture. A group called the Karaites is the opposite of the Ethiopian and only believe in the 5 Books of Moses. Rabbinical Jews call Karaites "a sect of Judaism". You can goggle it and see for yourself. Don't let anyone tell you that there are no sects in Judaism. They say the the teachings of Jesus are very different from Judaism. They also claim that Jesus taught nothing new from the rabbis before him. Then they we tell you that there were no rabbis until a hundred years after the time of Jesus. Its all about winning the argument to them not about what's true. The problem is not differences but similarities. You should know ALL the writers of the Christian Bible were Jews but one. Much of our Scriptures are shared. The vast majority of early believers in Jesus were Jews. So when you hear the exact opposite you need to keep that in mind. A Jew can believe in Jesus and still be a Jew. Edit: those that make personal accusations should include links or shut up.

first i doubt it is proven fact

due to that we have no

standard way of finding out how old something is

other than methods like carbon dating that are know for not quite having things match up

so it is not quite a perfected theory

secondly

i'm agnostic about both religion and science

i take nothing for granted and my reality is quite an interesting one

without any firm beliefs

show me proof and i will show you only evidence of proof

nothing is ever for certain

that is what science is about

after all

the theory of evolution i just as unprovable

as the devil set all those bones there to test our faith

the devil could be true rendering evolution wrong

and evolution could be right and good bye church

i know the devil did it is a stupid argument

but it is still philosophically sound

scienetst have not proven without a dount that evolutionis true, htere is still plenty of gaps, nad dont knows about evolution.

Dating is very dodgy of fossils, as many dating techniques only fit certain incidents nad certain time periods

Also the earth may have been here for billions of years, so yes io believ that rocks can be millions of years old, but i firmly believ that creation and life on this earth has only beeen here for aprox 6000 years
