Clean your wound daily or twice daily as needed. Soap and water will suffice. Be gentle in manipulation of the wound. Apply silvadene cream to wound and apply a nostick breatheable dressing, such as telfa and a light gauze dressing with paper tape over that.

I am not sure silvadene is OTC but I am sure they make an alternative. Check with the pharmacist.

  • Cool the burn. Hold the burned area under cold running water for at least five minutes, or until the pain subsides. If this is impractical, immerse the burn in cold water or cool it with cold compresses. Cooling the burn reduces swelling by conducting heat away from the skin. Don't put ice on the burn.

Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage. Don't use fluffy cotton, which may irritate the skin. Wrap the gauze loosely to avoid putting pressure on burned skin. Bandaging keeps air off the burned skin, reduces pain and protects blistered skin.

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others).

First of all do NOT use neosporin under any circumstance!!!!!!!!! I mean that and you can call any doctors office to learn why.

You need to get yourself a nice antibacterial soap, i prefer to use it in liquid form as it's easier. You need to clean the burned area twice a day. Then you need to make sure it is dried completely before wrapping it up. Pat it dry as gently as possible with only a cotton cloth. Then let it sit and finish drying. When it is finished drying use guaze to wrap it up with, something that will not tear off easily or get into the wound. The stores carry good guaze so it should be easy to get your hands on. If your wound is large you can go to any medical store and get larger pieces. Do not wrap it tightly, keep it very comfortable. You don't want it falling off you loose, but you do need to allow it to swell so it can heal.

You can get some true burn cream by prescription which will make it heal faster. If you can't afford that in any way, you can ask the pharmacist the next best over the counter cream. If you have to by simply straight antibiotic salve, make sure it doesn't have that quick healing stuff in it. Not unless you want more medical problems with it. The list the doctor gave my friend to NOT use neosporin or stuff with that in it was quite large and the reasons quite intensive.

    Good luck.

Keep it very clean (Peroxide) air dry and apply neosporin and cover.

Do this twice a day. Keep covered with a sterile band aid.

If at any time it seems like it's not getting better or has puss call the MD - burns can get infected very fast - and are often hard to heal.

    Good Luck.
