The RAM figures from my system properties and windows task manager are different, what's wrong?
My system properties says I have 4.00 GB of RAM, yet the windows task manager says my total physical memory is 3061MB. What's wrong?
My laptop had initially 2GB of RAM, which I quickly upgraded to 3GB. I noticed the total physical memory was 3061 MB at this point, which makes sense. I've just replaced the other RAM card and should have 4GB, which is what the system properties say, but the windows task manager still says my total physical memory is 3061 MB.
I don't suppose it makes a difference, but the computer is a toshiba satellite pro U300.
sorry, forgot to mention, it's Vista business

You have an older 32 bit processor. They can only manage 3GB. You need a 64 bit processor and version of Windows to get the full 4GB.

Windows XP (32 bit) can only recognize 3 GB of RAM. Your system properties knows that there is more there, but the 32 bit version of Windows can only handle 3 GB due to memory management restrictions.

Windows XP 32bit and Vista 32bit (before SP1) can only address and see just a bit over 3GB of memory, this is by design , Vista SP1 addressed the problem by reporting the full 4GB while still using just the same 3GB

you're able to have a sixty 4 bit OS to be waiting to apply all your ram and 32bit OSes can not use your ram for greater that 3~3.7GB(relies upon on the equipment and motherboard) in addition to in laptops you could infrequently ever use each and all of the put in reminiscence reason maximum laptops GPUs(picture enjoying cards) use ram to artwork(We call it Shadow a minimum of in my united states) so in case you put in a sixty 4 bit os and observed that it continues to be below 4GB be confident that your gpu is utilising that ! i wish i could desire to help(you and individuals) :D
