I messed up..i didnt intend anti abortion..i meant they both think abortion is wrong and should be stopped

MR. BROKAW: Two weeks ago I interviewed Senator Nancy Pelosi--she's the speaker of the House, obviously--when she was in Denver. When Barack Obama appeared before Rick Warren, he was asked a simple question: When does life begin? And he said at that time that it was above his pay grade. That was the essence of his question. When I asked the speaker what advice she would give him about when life began, she said the church has struggled with this issue for a long time, especially in the last 50 years or so. Her archbishop and others across the country had a very strong refutation to her views on all this; I guess the strongest probably came from Edward Cardinal Egan, who's the Archbishop of New York. He said, "Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being `chooses' to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name." Those are very strong words. If Senator Obama c
SEN. BIDEN: I'd say, "Look, I know when it begins for me." It's a personal and private issue. For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church.

You kidding me?
Biden may be Catholic, but he is also a sold-out moral relativist who tap-dances on this. He wouldn't favor abortion for himself (that is, if he was a woman) but sees nothing wrong with somebody else having one, as long as they think it's right for them. Pure relativism. There is no right or wrong, just whatever works for you. And if he indeed draws the line at federal funding of abortion as he claims in that video, then he's flying in the face of his own party's plank on abortion -- unless he doesn't get what it means by "regardless of ability to pay", and he's been in Washington too long to claim that:
“The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right”.
Palin, at least, walks the talk. She's also a little more realistic about the ability of pro-life politicians to actually strong-arm the entire legislature and also the Supreme Court bench to all of a sudden overthrow Roe v. Wade than the people who claim to be afraid that this will occur (or at least attempt to scare others into swallowing such a scenario). But she, and others who are genuinely pro-life instead of "opposed to abortion" (with a huge asterisk meaning "for me personally, but ...") are voices for the unborn who at least have to be considered, and listened to, when this comes up in Congress.
The pro-choice crowd needs to accept this as the consequence of, 35 years ago, blindsiding the country by seizing an opportunity to craft this as a Supreme Court case when the matter should have been left with the states, thereby depriving everyone of the opportunity to debate this in the public square and the halls of legislature. It may take another 35 years before we achieve some equilibrium on the matter, and if it does, so be it.

That is NOT going to work.
Not any more than it does for other prominent politicians who try to use their Catholic faith to get votes while voting for abortion protection legislation to appease the hard-line Pro-Choice special interests.
Biden is NOT anti-abortion. His words mean NOTHING. As usual.
There is a policy on the Catholic Church against what is called "giving scandal" that is applied to important public figures who are considered to have an obligation to lead by their example if they are publicly identified as Catholics which is what politicians such a Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, and others have sought to do.
They and their party use their Catholic Faith as a "selling point" with Catholic ethnic groups to get their votes, while at the same time say "see, even s/he can support a 'woman's right to choose'"
NO, they can't.
There are prominent Catholic Democrats like David Bonier who was John Edwards' campaign director who always opposed abortion legislation, the late PA Governor Bob Casey who was even denied the right to speak at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia because of his anti-abortion stance, and others.
Sens. Mary Landrieu and Blanche Lincoln have been denied support by groups like Emily's List because they oppose some abortion legislation.
Biden is not in accord with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
This is not the last you will hear of this.

Biden's stance used to be pro-abortion. I'm glad he's pro-life, but wonder if he was lying before.
WASHINGTON, D.C., August 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - New Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was blasted on Wednesday, in the wake of Nancy Pelosi's much derided remarks to the same effect, for claiming that his radically pro-abortion stance is "totally consistent" with the teachings of the Catholic Church

The difference is that Biden is pro-choice, even if he doesn't admit it. The teachings of the Catholic Church, which Biden claims to uphold, say that not only does life begin at conception, we must be ready to fight to protect life at all stages. One is either pro-life or pro-choice. There is no in between. Saying "I am personally against abortion, but I'm not going to keep others from having the choice" is the same as saying "I am personally against murder, but if someone else wants to commit homicide, I'm not going to stop them."
Sarah Palin is pro-life! She believes that abortion is wrong and that Roe v. Wade should be overturned. She recognizes that abortion is murder, and that it should be recognized as such legally. Go Sarah!

Exactly ! I concur that there is hardly anyone who favors abortions. However, we all know that women will choose, whether we give them the right to or not.
Women with money will fly to Europe and have a legal procedure. Others will go underground for illegal ones. The laws are written to give rich and poor the same choice.
I too, hate abortion, but I strongly support the right of each woman to make her own peace with God when she makes her decision.
I feel Sen Biden will uphold our constitution.

If he said "I know when it begins for me" he's still making a statement RIFE with moral relativism. i.e...."I'll support life, you do whatever you think is right."
NOT the Catholic position. Here's what he said in 2007...it's doublespeak:
"My views are totally consistent with Catholic social doctrine," Biden said in a 2007 interview with the Christian Science Monitor. "There are elements within the church who say that if you are at odds with any of the teachings of the church, you are at odds with the church. I think the church is bigger than that."
link below....
I'm sorry, Biden's about as orthodox a Catholic as my dog. It is offensive that Obama's camp would think his poor example would pull in "the Catholic vote".

On Meet the Press, Joe Biden said that he is pro-life, but he does not believe that he, or anyone else, should tell people what to do based on his religious beliefs.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Biden never said that, how about providing link? He said the HE, his PERSONAL view was that he believed that life began a conception, but he would never PUSH his views on others, He supports PRO CHOICE!
Mediocre attempt at best to spin, you are a lousy spinner!

Senator Biden has never publicly differed from the Democrat's pro-abortion stance, including third trimester later term abortions. He has never, as a political stance statement, opposed abortion.
So, its seems that only one politically opposes late term abortion.

Nobody "favors" abortion. In a perfect world there wouldn't be abortion. A lot of Democrats are pro-choice, meaning it's up to the woman to decide what to do with her body.
