Manny Ramirez or Alex Rodriguez?
Using their statistics and post season success who would you choose at the best right handed hitter of this generation between Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez? Why?
Career Statistics through 9/7/08 (Manny 1st vs ARod 2nd)
.314 to .306 average (advantage Manny)
.411 to .389 on base percentage (advantage Manny)
.592 to .579 slugging percentage (advantage Manny)
1.003 to .968 OPS (advantage Manny)
502 to 407 doubles (advantage Manny)
18 to 26 triples (advantage ARod)
521 to 550 homeruns (advantage ARod)
1706 to 1594 runs batted in (advantage Manny)
2368 to 2391 hits (advantage ARod)
1432 to 1598 runs (advantage ARod)
1201 to 973 walks (advantage Manny)
1652 to 1624 strikeouts (advantage ARod)
2 to 0 World Series Rings (advantage Manny)
Manny wins the statistical categories 7 to 5 and the one important post season category 2 to 0.
My choice is Manny because he produces in the clutch far more frequently than ARod. He is the post season leader in homeruns with 24 and helped break the curse in Boston by being the MVP of the 2004 World Series. Had a subpar 2007 season but was the biggest spark for the Sox in last season's ALCS with 2 homeruns and 10 runs batted in and then helped the Sox sweep the Rockies to run their record in the series to 8-0 with Manny.

What Manny has done for the Dodgers has been absolutely phenomenal. The younger Dodgers are in complete awe of a, so far, happy to be a Dodger, Manny.

Hi
Well Arod is one the Best with manny and they will always be on the top in my Book and with Stats many wins because of what he does in the Postseason and people look for that, and personality goes also a big part in the like Factor but I would choose Arod because for some reason even tough he gets me and i know what he is Capable of

i am a yankees fan, but manny is much more clutch than A-Rod. Just look at their post season records. I would take Manny over A-Rod any day. A-rod only makes numbers when it is unnecessary. He hits home runs when the yanks are up by like ten. no comparison, Manny wins.

You pretty much answered your question. Manny Ramirez produces more crucial hits in clutch situations than A-Rod, and his post-season RBI production is monstrous compared to Rodriguez. To top it off, his two World Series rings certainly proved his status in the playoff. The inability to come up with clutch hits with running in scoring positions cast a big shadow on A-Rod's otherwise brilliant career.
So if I had to choose between them, right now, I'd still choose Manny over A-Rod.

So if people compare A Rod to other players like Manny or Pujols & they say they are better than A Rod cause they have a World Series ring does that mean those same players are better than let's say Ted Williams, Ernie Banks or Harmon Killebrew who are all in HOF but haven't won a WS or any other HOFer who hasn't won a WS? Just my thoughts?

I would take Manny in the clutch but A-Rod as a guy on my team everyday. I couldn't deal with the silliness of manny everyday.

I would say both are favored for creating a media frenzy. but as a performer i'd say Manny Ramirez because of the venue he plays at. In NY they expect so much from you, and you have tougher fans. In LA, things are more relaxed, you're still expected to perform but it doesn't seem to be as grueling on someone. Its all about perspectives.

This is a very interesting question. One of the keys is that Rodriquez is 4 years younger than Manny, so I think by the time all is said and done A-Rod will top him. Manny's attitude is a big negative too, but he is still a remarkable, Hall of Fame hitter.
And please people, let's grow up with the "Gayrod" comments.

Manny Ramirez. He used to play with the Indians & I was fortunate to see him play several times. He makes things happen on the field wether its at bat or in the outfield. When he played for Cleveland they we contenders 3 years in a row. He is a very consistent ball player most of the time. Like any other athlete, he has his moments. I still watch him play. =o`)

Is this a trick Question? A-Rod the Snot could not tie Manny's shoes. Manny is a big time clutch hitter where A-rod is all about his stats, A-rod is a CANCER to what ever team he plays on!
