Is there a nerve that runs from hip to shins?
I have a pain that seems to start at the hip, buzzes my thighs, hurts my knee (cap?) then REALLY HURTS MY SHINS (like shin splints). The pain in my hip is pretty bad but the pain in my shin is what is beginning to lay me up

What you are describing seems to be either L-3 or L-4. I would suggest that you get a referral to a physical therapist. They would do an evaluation of you and then set up a program to decrease the pain and improve posture, mobility, strength, and muscular balance. There are very specific maneuvers to be done for controlling a disc problem. There is also the possibility that it is coming from the hip and that area needs to be worked on. Muscles when they are in a state of irritation can cause problems that mimic discs. See your doctor and if he agrees with seeing a therapist get a referral.

There is a nerve called the sciatic nerve that runs down the length of your leg. It sounds like you could possibly have sciatica, which causes that nerve to seriously hurt. My husband has had bouts of it, and finds the only thing that gives him some relief is Aleve. But you should see a dr. and get it checked out - might be something completely different. You might ask if a chiropractor would help, or they also have machines that send little electronic pulses down your leg that are supposed to help, sorry I forget what they are called. Ask your dr. about any stretches or exercises that could help prevent it - my husband gets sciatica when he is inactive for a few days at a time and doesn't move around and stretch out. Hope that helps. :)
