Is Miguel Cabrera the youngest player ever to reach 1000 hits?

No. Ty Cobb was the youngest to reach 1000 hits.

With a little research, I determined that Cobb had his 1000th hit on May 13, 1911, making him 24 years, and 146 days old at the time. Cobb had 959 hits after the 1910 season, so his 41st hit of the 1911 season would have been #1000. I used the New York Times archves to determine the number of hits Cobb had each game that year until I reached 41. He had two hits in the game on 5/13 giving him 1001 in his career. One hit that day, (likely the first and #1000) was a grand slam in the third inning.

Six players reached this milestone before turning 25; Ty Cobb, Buddy Lewis, Freddie Lindstrom, Mel Ott, Robin Yount, and Al Kaline.

Ott likely reached the mark in early August, making him right about 24-and-a-half, and at least a month older than Cobb.

Lindstrom likely hit the mark in late June 1930, making him about 24 yesrs, 7 months.

Kaline reached the milestone on August 11, 1959 when he was nearly 24 years, 9 months.

Lewis was already more than 24-and-a-half when the 1941 season started an likely didn't reach the mark until June.

Yount was nearing his 25th birthday when he reached the mark late in the 1983 season.

Vada Pinson is sometimes credited with his 1000th hit while age 24, but his 1000th hit actually came on Sept. 11, 1963, one month after his 25th birthday.

I don't think there is any accurate way to determine the record. Ty Cobb is the best bet. He was born in December 1886. After the 1910 season he had 959 hits, and it wouldn't have taken him long to get the 41 hits needed in the 1911 season, seeing as he collected 248 hits in the 146 games he played. By the end of the 1911 season he had a total of 1207 hits. With the season ending in October his birthday still wouldn't have come, so his final numbers put up that season would have been done so before he turned 25.

If you had to estimate, Cobb averaged nearly 1.7 hits per game he played in the 1911 season, so it would have taken about 24 games to get the 41 hits he needed at season's onset. If the season started April 4th (just using an approx. number) it would have been about the end of April by the time he got hit 1000. At the end of April 1911 he would have been 24 years, 133 days old. That's pretty close to what you could get to a determination.

Bottom line is he had a total of 1207 hits, then turned 25 a couple of months later and is most likely to be the youngest, but due to a lack of game by game breakdowns because he played so long ago, there is no definite answer or exact date which he collected #1000.

If you add up his hits for his first 6 seasons, 1905-1910 (his hit totals were 36, 113, 212, 188, 216 and 194) that is 959 total. In December 1910 he turned 24. He didn't have 1000 hits before turning 24. No one else did either.

Trapezoi is right, but needs to look at the math a little more simply.

Cabrera turned 25 on April 18.

Cobb turned 25 AFTER the 1911 season, by which point he was well over 1000 hits.

BTW, Rose didn't get his 1000th until he was 27.

I thought I would check a couple of others...Puckett was a 24 year old rookie, he's out. Ditto for Boggs.

Yount also had his 1000th hit before he turned 25.

Robin Yount turned 25 on September 16, 1980. He had 1050 hits by the end of that season ( a few weeks later). So he was still 24 unless he got 50 hits in the last 15 games or so. http://www.baseball-reference.com/y/yountro01.shtm...

Hank Aaron reached 1000 hits probably around the end of May or early June of 1959 so he was a bit younger than Cabrera as well.

Yount, Aaron and Cobb are all I have found I don't know if there are anymore that were younger than Cabrera but I doubt it.
