You can still shed the virus even as your symptoms are subsiding. So it's a good idea to keep washing your hands and keeping your hands away from your nose and mouth for a few days after you are feeling better.

A cold can be contagious the whole time you have it. Sneezing and coughing can infect others around you, so be sure to cover your mouth and nose when you do it. Wash your hands often and stay away from others til you feel better....

As long as you have it, you're contagious. When it's gone, you're not.

And more colds and illnesses are passed hand to hand than any other way. Don't shake hands when you're sick, and wash your hands with antibacterial soap - often.
