Are you one of the 16% of Americans that actually votes FOR a candidate?

There has been a statistic that has been thrown around that says only 16% of Americans cast a vote for someone because they actually agree with that candidate. Whereas, the remaining percentage of Americans either don't vote OR actually vote AGAINST another candidate. Are you one of those 16% or someone that votes against candidates (i.e. you vote for the lesser evil)? Why would you vote against someone instead of voting for someone that belongs to a third party? Do you believe voting for a lesser evil is not voting for an evil?

Actually, in previous elections I have mostly voted against a candidate, the lesser of two evils.

I did make a mistake in 2000 and voted Nader as I wasn't crazy about Gore and didn't think gw sounded too awful (he was running on being humble, working with other countries, being a uniter and not a divider).

Shortly after 9/11, when he began beating the war drums for invading Iraq I realized that sometimes it is better voting for the lesser of two evils.

This election is the first time that I am really happy about my candidate. I agree with over 90% of Obama's proposed policies, I love that he actually thinks about things in an intelligent way before making rash decisions. I believe that he will be an excellent president and I think that our country really needs his kind of leadership if we are to remain one of the leading countries in this world.

Absolutely. Look at the people who answered this question. Half of them are talking about Obama! They don't care about Palin. The republican running could be a good candidate or an abyssmal one, and these same people would vote for them regardless. The moral of the story: many, many people vote not for who they think is a good candidate, but AGAINST who they hate. And as you can see from the people on this board... a certain part of the population hates Obama so much that Satan himself could be running against Obama and they'd vote for him. So yes, I agree. It's VERY possible with our voting public. Sadly enough.

All of the above. In 2000, I voted for Bush because I hated Gore. In 2004, I hated Bush and Kerry, so I voted for Michael Badnarik, the Libertarian candidate. This year, I'm back to voting Republican, but I am a registered Libertarian in my state. I actually like McCain and Palin. I'm a little motivated by my opposition to Obama, but it's definitely a vote FOR McCain. I vote for GOP candidates, LP candidates, independent candidates, but never Democrat or Green.

last election, I voted against Bush. I didn't like Kerry, but truly, passionately hated Bush... always have. I didn't vote for an independent party because there's no way an independent party would have won... it's simple statistics.

this election, I love Obama... so I'm voting for him.

    OBAMA 2008!!
