Was I wrong to do this???????

Last week a young "man" came into my place of employment.

He asked for a job application..

He had a hair job that would scare SATAN, tatoos on the neck and arms, enough metal in his ears, tongue, and eyebrows to build a tank.

He filled the app and left.

After he left, I threw his job application in the trash.

I just thought if I were a customer looking at this freak......

....I would never come back to this store.

Was I wrong?

Absolutely not. Those type of people do not belong in the public eye, it's their choice to look like that...but it's equally our choice NOT to look at them.

Why do you dress up for a job interview??...to give your best impression. If someone is stupid enough to walk in looking like that, unless it's a tattoo parlor, then they need a good long while at home wondering why they can't get a job! Kudos to you!

To tell you the truth I judge people alot also. Bu then I opened my own dj buisiness 4 years ago and now it is going better than ever and i have to keep 5 other dj's on hand and I interview a great deal of people.

White,black.hispanic. Well, to make a long story short I have a guy who has worked for me for about a year now great guy. He has lug nuts in his ears tattoo like from head to toe and he wears alot of older looking clothes. He was refered to me by a judge he did yard work for of whom I did a party for.If it wasnt for that i wouldnt have hired him. I went to his house to pick him up the first time and he had a two story 5 bed room house that would put my house to shame and it was cleaner than a whistle. He has great heigene. He comes to work everytime I ask him to.He has collected more money and has been more honest with me than any one I have EVER hired including my brother. He brings me buisines and he has a family {a wife and kid} and works a full time job. Some times the sheep is in the wolves clothing my dear you have to give everyone a fair chance an interview would have been fair enough to judge this guy.He could have been a junkie trying to get his life straight and made mistakes getting tattoos or that may just be his life style.Look at kid rock, and chris angel, and others that are millionaires and help through charities. He may have been that best worker you always wanted. I have no rules as to what to wear in my company but if you wouldve asked the guy to take the earings out and wear long sleeved shirts I think he may have wanted money and wouldve not had a problem with that. I also drug test all my workers and make them so it in front of me or if its a female in front of my wife and this kid is 19 and never ever failed a drug test. It's just the style that he likes is all. I don't think god will say to him in church next sunday look at what ure wearing and all those tatts and piercing dont come here any more come on.How would you feel if you went to work tomorrow and someone says to you we dont want you here any more bcause ure too prepy. Please dont take this the wrong way you asked for my opinion and this is actualy in mine the best answer.

If you really feel that way, I think a better plan might have been to put a note on the application for your boss. Places of business aren't supposed to discriminate, but of course it happens, and sometimes it makes sense, like if you work at a clothing store for example mainly geared towards young preppy women, it would be weird to have a big burly biker dude working there.

I don't think you were wrong to have an opinion about the guy's appearance. Obviously, he chooses to look the way he does, and must understand that it will limit the places where he can get a job but I think that technically you should have let your boss make that decision.

The application must have got lost! you neatly filed it in the right place for it. Good for you.

Was the position for bouncer on a sleazy nightclub?

Most places do not send rejection letters so don't worry about it. Some people get thousands of applications and it would cost a fortune to reply to them all. Rejection emails are a possibility

If your place of employment is a tattoo parlor, he would have fit right in, but if you have a bank or other professional-type business, or one that deals with food preparation, then I agree, that this person doesn't know square-one about proper attire for seeking a job. I probably wouldn't have hired him either. If the poor guy would clean up his act, he'd have a much better chance. Some folks just don't see themselves as others see them.

It all depends on what the job was.

HotTopic? He totally fits the profile, no offence to anybody. . .

A nice restaurant? ....Not so much.

When an application gets declined the job you applied for will

notify you... So since you threw it away he won't get anything.

He may come back because of it...

    He may not.

Just remember that 'looks' isn't everything in a person.

He could have been a very nice guy, you never know.

Yeah, shouldn't really have done it but I can see where you are coming from. Maybe he doesn't dress like that for work so next time you might want to hand it to a boss and comment that what he looked like makes you think he would be unsuitable and why.

After all, if he turns up for interview like that, the bosses will figure it out! ;-D

You shouldn't have thrown it away. Though he may be a little creepy you need to give everyone a fair chance. If you can: find the app. and read it. If he's actually kind (not much of a chance) you can then turn it down.
