For Guys and Girls Engagement Ring Question?
Would you want a ring that is expensive, but from a pawn shop. (Could have come from a nasty divorce or someone's misfortune.) Or a ring that is not so expensive with a small diamond, but is new and you're the only owner?

I wouldnt care as long as I didnt know. Not because I am a snob, but I am a big believer in Karma and I wouldnt want any bad juju that may be associated with a ring from a divorce. So I would hope that if it was a 2nd hand ring, I would be blissfully kept in the dark about it's past.

I would go to the pawn shop and find an ugly ring with a big nice center stone and have it taken out and put in a new setting, then you have a whole new ring.

I personally wouldn't care. I would want to get the pawn shop one appraised and stuff when I got it though so if you go that route I would recommend doing that.
My fiance says he would rather have a new one that no one owned.
My friend said that she would rather have the pawn shop ring because it would more likely have higher craftsmanship or it would be cool if it were an antique as well.

I'd want the best quality diamond, from whatever source. There is really no such thing as a "used" diamond -- they are all a gazillion years old. The time it may have spent on one person's finger is miniscule compared to the age of the diamond. My engagement ring has a very high quality diamond that came from my MIL (who is divorced from my FIL). It was given with love, so I think that erases any bad vibes that may have attached to it from her divorce. And bonus, that's $5K that we were able to spend on buying a house instead of wedding jewelry.

Either. There is nothing wrong with getting a good ring for a good price from a pawn shop. Good for you if you found a good ring from any source. Just make sure it is clean.

Actually, I would prefer one with a small diamond that came from a pawn shop to either of those of those options. Mine has a small diamond and was bought second-hand, and I'm happy because it's pretty but not gaudy, and he was able to save his money for our other living expenses.

well maybe you could get a different setting. put the diamond in a new ring base.

whatever my fiance thought of i am sure would be fine. I don't think i would care where he got it from. I would hope he would feel like he didn't have to nearly empty his pockets on a piece of jewlery though. Especially a diamond that children in Africa have to dig and mine for for little or no pay. I don't ever want another diamond
