Why do those who deny global warming seem to have a better idea on how to solve it?

The solutions that many of those who accept global warming tend to propose are things that have been shown not to be able to replace fossil fuels (e.g. wind power which is only good for pumping water uphill) whilst those who deny global warming if asked how we could reduce CO2 emissions are able to actually come up with workable solutions that actually could replace fossil fuels.

It sure looks like most of both sides deny reality (well all the denialists do, you have to think global warming isn't happening or caused by us or likely to be harmful but even most who accept that global warming is happening are in denial about the limitations of wind and ground based solar and the lack of decent large scale energy storage technology). Is this just a battle between two bad ideologies with reality caught in the crossfire?

Update:

Bob: That is exactly what Denmark does, sells the power from the wind turbines to Norway to use to run pumped hydro (then they buy the power back when they actually need it which isn't necessarily when the wind is blowing).

Besides, am I the only to notice that Denmark hasn't shut down any coal power plants?

my family is all construction... coal fire, nucs, even hydro... and let me tell you a "truth"

in Colstrip MT, they built a coal fired plant...lots of electricity..the town sprang up around the plant... and no one had any problems until the clean air scrubbers went in....

then the trailers started to get pitted.. the paint on the cars started to peal..and anyone with a breathing problem? ohhhh my! really got worse.. the air burned the lungs on healthy people!.. and it was "cleaner".. what a joke! only not real funny, don'cha' know? cost millions to put those scrubbers in... and the air quality? got WORSE!

you want clean power? go nuclear ... it has worked in europe for 40 years... they build, we can't... they use our technology ... we can't ...what is up with that? does anyone really think they do it better than us? it was our companies that did the building!

i don't want to go back to the horse and buggy days... i want electricity to run my home.. i LIKE having indoor plumbing... and wind, solar, geothermal...just aren't there yet...

    They don't.

Ask Denmark if wind is "only good for pumping water uphill". They get a substantial portion of their electric power from it. The percentage in the US is increasing pretty rapidly, too. Wind and solar are not complete solutions (yet), but they're a useful part of the solution.

This is not to say some laypeople who understand global warming is real, are still wedded to old ideas, such as that nuclear is bad. But scientists who understand global warming is real also understand that, for a time, we'll need nuclear to solve it.

I didn't notice this. But I do notice those with the best ideas know how to make money because their ideas are profit oriented. I worked in very polluted Beijing teaching English to an Environmental company. They were wind power. They were not really environmentalists; they were trying to find a niche market in China. We need people to point out things and then we need people to implement strategy. The problem with America is that people do way too much talking instead of implementing. Too much arguing and second guessing. Just do it. We are no longer a progressive climate.

You are wrong about the usefulness of wind energy. It can be used for lighting, refrigeration, transportation (sailboats!) and anything else that requires electricity. Same for solar! But really large scale requires an infrastructure that isn't yet in existence. And is anyone still denying global warming? Wow.

The problem is those who believe in it are "advocates" of AGW, and are not living in reality. They so believe in the theory (with out the facts) that they will come up with any hair brained idea (urine in the ocean, man made volcanoes, sulfates in the atmosphere, etc).

Skeptics like myself, we believe in clean environment and conserving. But we also realize that human nature is not something to ignore. People are not going to ride a bicycle just because some loons say we should. We realize that people are motivated by saving money. I use "green" products only if the the benefit of the product will pay for the additional cost. Most of us conservationist look at the realistic methods to save. The environmentalist (wackos) use more of the government method, which is, pass a law which is totally against human nature. Thus, they ensure that a majority of people will try to find a way around the law.

I think you are making generalizations about the global warming camp. They aren't all clueless.

    They think positively?

    Optimist?
