Do people wear hose with their homecoming/prom dresses anymore?
My daughter is going to homecoming next weekend and has a short, cute, black and red dress with black shoes (still have to find). Back in my day, we always wore hose with a dress - but it seems like people don't really do that anymore. Is that the trend now?
I'm not talking about skin colored hose- the only possibility with the dress would be a very sheer black.
Her legs are beautiful and long. They're not tan- but neither is the rest of her. Her skin is great too. Maybe a shimmer lotion or something like that on them would work.

Sheer leg coloured pantyhose is out! Nothing will make a person look older than they really are faster than pantyhose. When I see sheer leg coloured pantyhose I immediately think a woman over 45 or guy dressing as a girl. It looks like you afraid of your legs, and there's nothing wrong with you legs, trust me. I'm over 45 and once I stopped wearing plain nylon panty hose I will never wear them again. (Just because we did something back in the day doesn't mean it was good idea: remember huge shoulder pads and flock of seagull inspired hair?) It doesn't look more polished or put together, it looks silly -like you are afraid of your legs. Patterned and/or coloured tights are far more fashionable, sophisticated and modern. If it's a cool day and hose is needed for a bit of warmth, a legitimate reason, then wear something with colour. A deep super sheer shimmer black would be miles better than leg coloured hose. Otherwise, bare legs with a bit of bronzer or shimmer powder.

When a girl/woman is wearing pantyhose with a dress/skirt, it gives a polished, professional, elegant, sophisticated, classy, smoother, and modest look. For a man like me, whether hose are said to be in style or not, they'll always be better than bare legs ever will. Never mind when someone says they're old fashioned or out of style. When a girl/woman is wearing a dress/skirt without hose, it's like a cake without icing. Hose puts icing on the cake. So wear the hose.

I think it's because of insecurities and convenience. As a high school student, I wanted to blend in and not stand out. I wore jeans simply because everyone else did. The days I wore skirts, people would ask me why and I felt self-conscious. Once I was in college, it became more of a convenience thing. I was walking around campus in the rain, wind, and snow, and I needed to wear clothes that worked with the weather. I would wear dresses more in the warmer months, but it was still awkward with a backpack. Now, I love dresses. I think they're much more comfortable. With the popularity of leggings and tall boots, I wear dresses all the time now in the colder weather. I wear them to graduate school classes and most of my classmates are still wearing jeans. I never wear jeans anymore, I wear jeggings or a dress & leggings. It's what some people feel more comfortable in, I guess. As I've grown more confident, I've embraced wearing dresses. I have over 20 in my wardrobe. If I lived in a warmer climate, I'd probably wear them more often. I also think some people aren't sure how to style dresses or skirts, and it's often difficult to find ones that are casual enough for daily wear. There's my two cents!

You know in my day too and I still wear hose. If she has a little color in her legs and the dress is not too short I think no hose would be fine. I have also seen that some girls and women wear clothing that reveals too much so you as her mother need to hep her make good choices.

Get a good tanner! I don't suggest tanning beds, and wax those legs, try it a couple times before the week arrives for homecoming so that she knows she is not irritated by the wax. No panty hose.

Nope, no panty hose. Although if it works for the dress, she could wear colored tights. They're more of the thing now.
