Why are people so misinformed when it comes to drugs?

The ignorance in the world in terms of drugs is astounding. The amount of misinformation that is used to scare children into not using drugs is the wrong way to go about educating them. I was just wondering what other people thought of about such lies?

For example, many people are horribly against heroin but support morphine? They are 99.9% exactly the same. Heroin is actually still used in the UK as a pain killer.

People say pot is a gateway drug? Shouldn't cigarettes actually be the gateway drug since most people start with them before they smoke pot?

How people automatically think if you do drugs you are a failure at life, and fail to recognize the facts that MANY prominent people in society use drugs. Sigmund Freud and even president Grover Cleveland enjoyed cocaine.

What about when you are taking the pain killers your doctor prescribed you, they are opiates, same family as heroin.

How about people who are addicted to food? I've seen that destroy peoples lives worse then most drugs could ever do in a life time. All because of people who dont know the term moderation cant control themselves the rest of the world has to deal with it.

And finally how the war on drugs is a complete sham, and is actually doing more harm then good. People arrested for simple possesion of marijuana doing more jail time then rapists? Violent criminals being let out of jail because of overcrowding so we can throw away the person who was minding his own business smoking a joint?

--

Why cant they just tell people the truth, and let them make their own informed decision? I'm sick of the government telling me what I can and cant do, when they have little to no idea about what they are creating laws against. All they know is that if they ban this, they get more money.. ban that, even more money.

And we all know how safe alcohol is...

Update:

To BananaBlitz: Actually, if you were not so ignorant, you would know that heroin is DiacetylMORPHINE, which is... morphine, just a different form. Heroin does no more damage then any other opiate. This is exactly the lies people believe that caused me to ask the question.

Now, if you are talking about damage from needles, and the diseases they can spread then I understand, but needles are NOT a drug.

Well, with the marijuana thing it is complete band wagon crap.

But there is a huge difference between use and abuse, between responsible use and irresponsible use. How many people that you know who use marijuana drive while high? Is that really responsible use? I fully support marijuana, but it IS a drug and it DOES impair your driving. How many people go to work high? THat is Certainly not responsible use.

As far as the morphine/heroin thing... Most people dont realize that. But most of the time morphine is given in a controlled setting. The only time I have ever been given morphine is in the hospital, and I am a cancer patient. While I have seen things like morphine patches and pills, the only people they are given to are palliative patients or chronic pain sufferers. With a palliative patient, does it really matter that they get addicted when they are on their death bed? And almost all chronic pain sufferers end up addicted to a pain medication at some point or another.

As far as other opiate pain killers, again, its a thin line but a HUGE difference between responsible use and irresponsible abuse. Taking one pill every few hours for a couple days after surgery isnt an issue for most people. Taking 3 or 4 at a time and then going out with the car to the bar and drinking and then driving some more IS abuse.

People fight against cocaine so vehemetly (which is also used medicinally sometimes) because not many people can use recreationally without becoming addicted. Most people just cant do it.

As far as addiction to food, it is a HUGE problem, and is also a very recognized problem. There are a ton of programs to help those who are over weight and have eating disorders and food addiction. And, if you havent noticed, there is a war on obesity as well. People are fighting to have obese children recognized as child abuse or atleast neglect, people are fighting for stricter rules about how food is grown and what ingredients can go into it, there is a HUGE movement to eat organic only, and all of that has to do with obesity. No matter how hard you fight it though, you cant make eating illegal, you just cant.

I do agree with you though that for the most part the war on drugs is nothing more than public relations.

Pretty so much simply comes obviously. And suppose me I am customarily the final individual so much of my peers might believe might have a baby. I used to be 32 while I acquired pregnant and I believe I surprised every body that I informed. I continuously cherished youngsters however I wasn't ever very motherly. I imply I used to be a distinctive aunt. I might play with them and do matters however extra as an older playmate, now not as a mom. This used to be a deliberate child, however I believe I had one typically due to the fact that I used to be aging and my husband fairly desired a child. I now say that having a baby used to be a the satisfactory concept he ever had. When I had my child and some of the parenting belongings you simply determine. My husband helped with one of the stuff and so did my mother. I purchased a couple of books, however fairly I have not picked them up so much. I wager you simply determine it out. You will recognize your child so good after only a few weeks that you will not want so much support. Trust your self. If I can do it than you'll to. Most men and women honestly say that I am (strangely) an exceptional mom.

It's the drug "war" which is ironically supposed to enlighten kids as a way to stop them from using. All it seems to do though is misinform people and demonize drugs. The drug laws are ridiculous though and I'm sick of these stupid war on concepts that we keep on having.

Morphine is regulated and does far LESS damage than heroine, I mean give me a break! And comparing it to alcohol and cigarettes? Alcohol in moderation is fine, in fact, wine is GOOD for you. But, cigarettes in moderation? Impossible. Your arguement is completely flawed.

Scientists don't even know what they're talking about.

    They misinform themselves as well.

We only know the basics, it seems.
