Why do Air Force Officers have, "I'm better than you Attitude"?

The Majority of Air Force Officers that I've met in my career have this attitude that there better than you. Very few officers actually have a down to earth personality. What do you think?

Well, you don't mention WHAT your career is, nor how long you've been involved in it or the position YOU hold. You don't even give an example of their "attitude"... is their attitude, regarding YOU ?

Sorry for being the "devils advocate" here, but I did 15 years in the Navy (and another 10 years of work outside the Navy), and OFTEN those in positions of command or authority HAVE to have a slightly superior attitude. ALL those Officers are at a MINIMUM, college graduates and have undergone some form of institutional hazing and training to GIVE them an attitude. Academy officers in all services are a particular breed.

I worked with THOUSANDS of Navy Officers, and a good hundred each from the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps... There will ALWAYS be prima-donnas, that there will be some that take TIME to get comfortable around, and others who will be approachable immediately.

There are very few good officers out there that actually care about their Soldiers, Marines, Seamen, and Airmen. There is a saying: those officers that have been enlisted before making their commission, make the best officers. This is very true.

Chances are, these wankers are just graduating from the AF Academy, so they have no previous experience about being an Airmen at all. I am in the Army but I can relate. Some Army officers are the same way.

There is a lot more I would like to say but chances are, kids actually read these answers. Hope this helps...

It's all in your head. You probably have some sort of chip on your shoulder and take every criticism personally. Officers are just doing their jobs; they're not your friends so you shouldn't care if they think they're better than you. If someone the same rank as you is a jerk, you'd wonder why he's a jerk; if an officer is a jerk, you think it's because he's an officer. That's just the way it is.

I think that when and if you make rank, you'll understand better that they've been through more and know more than you, and the attitude is more one of demanding respect for what they are -- maybe you're reading that as "better than you" because you know that at least right now, they are . . . but you still wish someone would unbend and be human once in a while. Sorry, in the military that usually only happens between equals.

Source(s): Air Force Brat -- been there and seen that!! Also, as a 15 year old, discussed with more than one visitor to the family home why they seemed so arrogant on duty and so normal when I see them out of uniform -- so had it from the horse's mouth years ago . . .

I've met a lot of officers, and haven't seen what you describe. Have you considered that maybe it isn't them, maybe it's you?

I've never been in the military myself, but my husband was in the Navy and he once told me about this one USAF unit that while on a deployment had to use Navy housing...and got paid for "substandard" housing!!

Could be that they've been programmed to think so.

  • because u gotta be more educated apparently, my bf is goin in the raf and he thinks hes someting special and the world owes him a favor, i just rofl at him and knock him down a few pegs.

  • i dont know why but i know they dont hold up to the same standards as a Marine Officer.
