1998 2dr honda accorda shutting off during driving?

i have 1998 2dr honda accord after a routine tune up the car began shutting off while driving, had someone check it out they said it was the fuel pump. had fuel pump change and the same thing happened car shuts off when driving. someone suggested changing the main relay but i don't know if this relay could cause the car to just shut off. i have spent almost $1000 already and still have the same problem. someone also suggested faulty distributor cap and rotor brush. help

there was a recall on your car for a faulty ignition switch that will cause the car to just shut off while driving at freeway speeds. typically you can coast to the side of the road and then put the car in neutral or park and it will restart immediately. the sensation is just like someone turned the key off when you are driving.

recalls are performed at no charge regardless of the age or mileage on the vehcile. take the car to a Honda dealer and have them do the ignition switch recall. the switch is the electrical part on the back of the ignition cylinder that is turned by the cylinder when you turn the key.

wish the people you were dealing with knew how to diagnose the condition'; it would have saved you $1000.

    hope that helps

    Here is your problem.....

    1. If you have a spare ignition switch.... Stop using the one you are now using and switch to the spare..... If the problem goes away the original key may be bad.... If the problem persists go to step 2.

    2. The main relay in these cars are notorious for bad solder connections on the PC Board.... I had the same problem... I removed the relay and re-soldered the connections... Plugged the Main Relay back in and no problems since... There are some good sources for MAIN RELAY info on the net.....
