What do you look for when determining our next president? ?

I would not consider myself politically informed, but it amazes me what people look at when trying to determine our next president. To me i care about which person overall can best represent the US and who can guide her down the best overall path in the future. To me individual topics are not sole reason to vote one way or another, nor is if they smoked pot, or if they fought in a war, or if there 3rd cousin was in jail, i mean do any of these things make dealing with congress easier? I mean what is important to you when choosing our next commander in chief.

Update:

Joe - i like your answer. all good qualities to look for.

Update 2:

miss lora - great answer as well.

trickle down economics (mccain's plan) has been proven a failure time and time again.

of the choices, obama is better for the economy.

he also has the confidence/ adaptability/ foresight/ comprehension skills/ intelligence/ and bright impromptu thinking of a great leader.

and he is less likely to be a stooge to lobbyists (corruption) like mclobbyist himself: see my source

Hillary isn't a liar. She is a magnificient liar and she or he's universally enjoyed for it by using her supporters. She is particularly in demand for it. throughout the bill Clinton presidency, it grew to become obtrusive that the president and the 1st lady have been locked in a nil sum recreation of theory. The greater perfect human beings perceived her, the weaker they felt he develop into. Early in his tenure, information thoughts have been rife approximately Hillary’s magnificent impression on appointments, coverage and political technique. each and every of those leaks sapped self assurance in bill Clinton’s capability and delivered approximately a drop in his rankings. Watch this night each and every time she approaches a microphone, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton labors below the will of fudging on her application - offering, particularly, a man made character and considered one of those ballot-examined bromides that enable her duck key subject concerns.

I look to keep our nation safe, therefore, have a strong military. I support our work in iraq and afghan because it heeps the fighting on their soil not ours, i do not think we need to pull out and we will have peace. we won't. other than the military, I want minimal government involvement in our lives and economy. the less government we have, the more freedom we have and the less taxes we have taken from us. I am also a very strong pro-life supporter. I want to keep MY GUNS, Obama will take them (visit NRA.com). I believe we are owed, as law abiding citizens, all that our forefathers wrote in our constitution and ammendments, and any candidate that threatens that threatens democracy. all my life I have considered myself conservative republican. John McCain is not really my first pick by far but barrack oSama sure won't get my vote now or ever!

Source(s): I'm a worker, farmer, tax payer, marine's wife, rush limbaugh fan, catholic, republican, and still a proud flag waving AMERICAN.

I look for a screwing regardless of who wins. The politicians do almost nothing to improve the nation.

I will vote for Bob Barr since the Libertarian philosophy, despite a few of their positions, is more rational.

At this point in history, The U.S. needs a hard nose SOB who can take a firm hand and lead. Country must always come before party and the welfare and protection of American Citizens first, above all.

Strong on defense. I like someone who actually served in the military, preferably, someone who has seen combat and knows first hand the horrors of war.

I like someone that has actually held a real job in civilian life. By a "real job" I mean he/she had to actually get out of bed in the morning and actually perform a service or task that they received a paycheck for.

I like someone who wasn't born rich and worked their way up on their own merits.

I like someone who realizes how hard the American middle class has to work to pay their bills and keep food on the table. I like someone who philosophically agrees that we Americans should keep as much of what we earn as possible.

I like someone who believes that I can spend and invest my money better than the government can.

I like someone who has actually held and fired a gun at least once in their life. I like someone that can look you in the eye and answer a direct question with a direct answer.

Many points of view. This is a good question. It is not enough that he/she can lead. One thing is important, our leader must not turn against our people at any time.

I'm a "The View" voter, so I'm going with whoever is more fab, sexy, and closely related to Brad Pitt.

Besides, Whoopi tells me McCain will bring slavery back.

    That's bad.

    Oh...and he's old.

Source(s): I've decided to be stupid, too.

I look for courage, honesty, ethics, intelligence, youth, vigor, knowledge, and a record of activism and caring for others. I find that in Obama.

I find those qualities, especially honesty, lacking in McCain.
