MotoGP Tyres 2009................?
I am just watching the Qualifying on Eurosport and Randy, Toby and Julian were talking about the tyres next year. I missed some of it, but the jist I got was that the rumours are that there wont be a single tyre next year, all 5 Ducatis will be on Michelin, Lorenzo and both Repsols will be on Bridgestone. Did I hear right ?
Thanks Proc, was searching everywhere, but couldnt find anything :)

Hi Cheryl H
I hope its true. Could be an astute move by Ducati. It means they'll get a much bigger say in tyre delelopment than they would if it went to a control tyre. It also means Tech 3 won't have to go looking for another main sponsor, making their position on the grid a lot more secure. Of course it will be a lot harder for Ducati to win the Championship next season, but give it a year or two..........what goes around comes around.
If true, this could be the best news in Motogp for a long time.

I really cant see Ducati moving to French rubber.

Like Kropotkin says, it's beyond bizzare really.
I [ like Proc ] really dont want a single tyre rule. MotoGP is the cutting edge. Its where the real changes are made.
Leave spec tyres to amateur events like Auto 66 club meeting, ACU meetings ............ and W.S.B meetings.
I also hope that Lorenzo sticks to his guns and stays with Michelin for 09. The split garage is a bit pathetic, but the idea of 2 different makes is cool.
It does slow down development however.

Hi Cheryl H, im still holding my breath waiting. the general consensus is there is going to be a control tyre. to be announced during this weekend. I hope not.
Edit .. I think the announcement is due around 1am here. we will have to wait until Eurosport starts 2:45am
Edit 2. just found this http://www.motogpmatters.com/

is very probably that next year all motogp will be on bridgestone. about ducati, i don't think that stoner, hayden or sete will be on michelin, maybe with satellite team. in yamaha is rossi who decides all and if he doesn't want that jorge has bridgestone, lorenzo won't be on bridgestone

[ all things being equal, the tender has to go to dunlop, like in the 250s otherwise the control tyre rule achieves nothing, and becomes a farce..<^><..

Yes, everyone pretty much answered this question many times... - it sucks! As for your second question - it doesn't matter who is sponsoring you, single tire supplier means single type of tires. Bridgestone everywhere.
