What happens when you stop payment on a check?

Can you resume payment of said check at a later date or is it stopped for good.

It is stopped for good. The bank will probably charge you a small fee. You can write them another check later.

No, the other answerers are wrong. The bank can reverse the stop check, usually for a fee. So if it costs you $25 to stop the check, it'll probably cost you another $25 to reverse that.

There may also be a time limit on it, or it may be that the other party can't have tried to cash it. Not sure what the restrictions are, but I know I stopped a check, then the next day was able to have the bank reverse that.

Its stopped for good. It also costs you about 30 dollars to stop it. You are still liable for the amount unless the party you paid it to gave you a faulty product or service. You credit can be negatively affected if you dont pay.
