1st appointment, ultrasound?
I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant by my calculations and I have my first appointment when I am 8 weeks along. What can expect from this appointment? I assume a bloodtest to confirm pregnancy. Should I expect an ultrasound? Ive never had one before so if so, do I need to do anything to prepare??
Thank you for your answers!!

That depends on your doctor. I had a vaginal ultrasound done to confirm pregnancy, not a blood test. I had blood work done later to make sure I was fine and dandy. And, you usually have to pee in a cup. Nothing you need to do.

I had my first appointment at 8 weeks, and they didn't do an ultrasound. They did do one at 12 weeks, and they let me know at my 8 week appointment that they'd be doing one.
At my 8 week appointment:
*I filled out lots of paperwork (it was my first visit to this doctor)
*I was weighed and they asked lots of questions about my medical history and current activity
*I gave a urine sample
*They took blood for blood work
*I had a pap smear and pelvic exam
*I had a breast exam
*The doctor answered any questions I had at that point
*I scheduled my next appointment and they gave me some sample vitamins and pregnancy literature.
I don't think you need to do anything to prepare, just don't pee right before the appointment as they will most likely take urine.
Good luck and congrats for the pregnancy!!

I am 6 weeks pregnant and my doctor said they would do an ultrasound just to make sure the heart is beating and see how everything measures up. Good Luck! Each Dr's office is different though. :) (I also go when I am 8 weeks)

No, they don't usually do an ultrasound at your first app't. Unless they need to. They'll do some blood lab work to make sure you're okay. You don't really need to do anything. Just go. :) Oh and if you haven't had a Pap in a while, they might do one. They'll also ask you when your last period was to give you a due date.

They may wait to do an ultrasound they usually give you notice as to when you will have one as you need to drink a lot of water. but yea usually first appointment is the blood work.

You'll go over medical history with your doc. about any diseases, genetic abnormalities if you know of any in your family history.
You'll go to the room and most likely get a trans vaginal ultrasound.
Then you'll also have your blood drawn and your bp taken, weight, and then you'll pee in a cup so they can test the protein, and things like that.
