Will a 22 LR with hollow points take down a deer?

And is that legal?

Update:

If it's illegal, then I won't do it... I'm just wanting to know....

If you are asking if it is POSSIBLE to kill a deer with a .22, the answer is yes, it is possible to kill a deer with a .22. Many poachers have killed deer with a .22. Is it legal? No place is it legal to hunt deer with a .22. While is is possible to kill a deer with a .22, it is highly likely to simply injure the deer and cause it to die a slow and painful death. Anyone caught hunting a deer with a .22 should have the .22 shoved up their rear end and the trigger pulled. But that is just my idea, I don't think it allowed anywhere that I know of.

Yes of course it can, but it is risky.* It is illegal and against the game laws.* It also is inhumane, unethical, unsportsmanlike, and cruel, because no one would be able to harvest every Deer that they shot at with the 22 LR.*

It's legal to use on deer in the state I live in. Would I use it given the choice of something more powerful? No. I believe most states have a minimum .243 caliber restriction for deer.

A hollow point might not even penetrate enough for a brain shot,

(the way poachers sometimes take them with solids).

It is illegal. It is also inhumane. Unless you place the shot

precisely, all you get is a wounded deer running around.

In most states, it is illegal to hunt deer w/ a rimfire caliber; which includes but is not limited to 17HMR, 22 L, 22LR, 22 Mag.

Yes,with a perfect head shot. More deer are taken with the .22 long rifle than any other caliber. Poachers use it. It is illegal and un ethical.

With a shot through the eye, maybe. However, I think all hunting rifles must be a centerfire, while .22s are rimfire. A .243 is the minimum caliber I would use (100gr rounds recommended).

Not cleanly or humanely. And as far as I know its illegal to hunt deer with a .22LR in every state in the Union.
