rap sucks! its the worst possible thing in the uni...
just kidding. i'm not a close-minded idiot. I understand that if you go beyond the mainstream rap and look at the underground or the old school artists, you'll find some great music.
try Changes by Tupac:

Sorry, no headphones right now. I'll take your word that it's good though, I know you wouldn't listen to Soulja Boy-esque music.
I'm not a big rap fan, but I think that's just because I haven't listened to too much of it yet. I do like hip hop a lot, though.
This might be a bit cliche, but I was just listening to "Brenda's Got A Bay" by Tupac a few minutes ago. Coming from an area where girls get pregnant at a young age and no one cares, it struck a chord with me.
I think most rap is more about the message (lyrics) than it is the music. So, if a person can make up an entire poem and make it mean something, and if other people can read it and connect to it, they are far better skilled than I. I have a lot of respect for (good) rap artists and fans.
Now, if I can throw some hip hop in there, I definitely recommend if you haven't heard it yet:
- "Where Is The Love?" by Black Eyed Peas
- "Give You The World" by The D.E.Y.
- "Going On" by Gnarls Barkley
- "Ooh Aah" by Grits
and my favorite of all, "Runaway Love" by Usher. Yes, it's a mainstream song (they all are). I think this is one of the instances where mainstream = good though. That song often makes me tear up a bit.
EDIT:
Nearly forgot, I love this one song by The Rapsody called "Prince Igor". It features Sissel in some parts, doing this whole operatic singing in a different language, it's awesome.

Well those are YOUR thoughts. Apparently you are ignorent in this category. You haven't heard every single rap song in the world. You just heard the wrong ones. Rap is the second best genre of music next to R&B. Then you have the rap legends. Tupac, Biggie, Eminem. Then theres the favorites. Lil Wayne, T.I., Kanye West, Nas, Rick Ross, 50 cent, Lupe Fiasco, The Game.

I don't dislike rap, but I haven't really heard any of it. I will get round to finding out more about it. There's just so much music out there!
I like Eminem, though. Well. Mostly the older stuff.
I do get annoyed when I see: "rap takes no talent". Not counting the mainstream b*tchez-n-bling rap, I don't see how people can think that.
Hmm... Maybe The Way I Am by Eminem?
"...and the heroin
Where were the parents at? And look where it's at
Middle America, now it's a tragedy
Now it's so sad to see, an upper class city
Havin this happenin'..."
Edit: I don't like that song too much, but I think it could grow on me if I listen to it more. Which I will do... In fact I think I'm starting to like it now (3:01 in ). :)

It's really not our fault people base rap off Soulja Boy, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne, all who doesn't represent hip-hop.
Anyways, I'm actually trying to get back into it after a lost interest when Lil Jon emerged and MAINSTREAM hip-hop wasn't offering anything new. The hip-hop acts I currently listen to include Beastie Boys, Nas, and Eminem, but trust me, in a month, I'll be listening to a lot more than just those 3.

I like Hip-hop, not rap. It's a big difference. I like Lupe Fiasco, A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, Common...it's a different type of music, a smarter type.
There is no music in this world that even compares to Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Redman, The RZA, The GZA, and Inspektor Dec...and of course Ol' Dirty Bastard. Wu- Tang!

I love rap, as I love all genres. I asked a similar question recently: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akltz...
Anyway, rap is pretty great. People like to dismiss it, but that's because it's much easier to dismiss a genre than to actually delve into it. My top five rap albums are:
1) Raising Hell - Run-D.M.C.
2)The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest
3) 3 Feet High and Rising - De La Soul
4) Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys
5) Stankonia - OutKast

Personally I really enjoy rap, not the crap on the radio, like 50 cent and Jermaine Dupri, Solja boy. The stuff NOT on the radio is my second favorite genre.
MA-Personally being a father I really enjoy Eminem's Haley's Song. The feelings he has against his Ex, and how his Daughter is his world. This song has a VERY powerful meaning

I like rap that has a message or has deep insight. Mostly underground or old school. I hate mainstream rap/hip-hop, that only talk about living the high life, bling, and f***ing bitches.
I like Tupac, Wu Tang Clan, and Public Enemy.
