Can someone help me with window pop ups?
This is becoming extremely annoying. To my knowledge, all my pop up guards are set the way they should be on my computer, but lately when I visit some sites, I get a Window's Explorer window that opens up. At the top in the http field, it says "about.blank," and it won't close no matter what I try, and sometimes it opens over and over again, and I have to shut off my computer totally to get rid of it. Can anyone tell me what this stupid window is and how I can keep it from happening?
I should mention that one of the sites where it happens is EBAY and the other is IMDB.

Sometimes when you download a file the web site opens up a new (and blank) window/tab to manage the download. When the download is completed you can close it.
If you get this kind of blank window spontaneously and can't close it, it might mean that a site is trying to download malware on to your computer, and your firewall is preventing it.
The best thing to do is to not go to those sites.
Download and install the McAfee Site Advisor (free) and it will warn you about bad sites, and will tell you which one are safe.

IE7
=======
Over time IE7 seems to set its own (or programs do) tick boxes in the advance tab.
In IE7 Tools >Internet Options >Advance Tab
Click Restore advance settings defaults button.
Then scroll the listings down to near the bottom and:
Tick empty temp files when browser closes (this empties the cache, which if not empty, will stop you from going online).
Bullet disable phishing filter (optional. Leave it on if you want that type of protection, usually for financial data like internet banking)
Delete Browser History, cookies, add ons, the whole lot regularly.
Close the browser to set the settings.

firefox all the way blocks pop-ups without additional downloads of programs. and it seems to me like you have a mal-ware or virus on your computer. i agree that you should get ad-aware and AVG anti-virus. threatfire is another good anti-virus. just google them they are free downloads.
another good thing to download and run frequently is Ccleaner(crapcleaner).

It sounds like a malware problem to me.
go to lavasoft.com and download adaware and run it. While you're doing that, download AVG anti-virus (google it) and set that up. Run that as well.
