What do you think about Motorcycle Airbag Jacket?
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/airbag-jacket/motor...
I know that most deaths on a motorcycle happen from Internal injuries but I don't think I am ready to run out and buy one.

I checked out the link and I have to say it's interesting, but I don't see myself wearing one. I see it as kinda wearing a diaper, no offense intended, as it is I wear my helmet under protest....

male 46 (old f**ker) 30 years of riding a bike... i have an air bag jacket which i personally have worn for the past two years and my ex wife ( don't ask) wore for over a year. She female 45 ( looks thirty) and been riding since she was 17 off and on. Right the jacket is an IXS airbag jacket, it is extremely heavy to lift and carry when not on, but is comfortable to wear well padded and armoured too. It is made of outer shell waterproof layer and insulation layer all in textile. it had a small co2 gas canister which is connected to the bike by a lanyard. it has a kinetic ramp so it takes a dynamic tug to set it off ( never done that yet) so walking away from the bike at the petrol pump doesn't set the bag off. :-) though looks very silly.... The jacket cost over £400.00 from J&S motorcycle accessories over 4 years ago so in my mind it was expensive then.... it's not new technology and luckily i've never had to test it's capability but watch the vids on the attached source doc

I wouldn't be caught dead in that thing.
For my own reasons.
But, here's some I can share:
Armor pads protect as well, or better. There is no delay to inflate.
Nothing to "pop" when it wears through.
Internal injuries? I agree that they are a large amount of the injuries. However, most internal injuries are not from being struck, but by the sudden change in the organs motion.
Might be interested if I rode a waterski...
Except that back air bubble might put you on your face.

They do look like a good idea, but I'm with you, not running out to buy one. I already have four different jackets of various weights & not looking to buy another one anytime soon.
I will have my eyes open to see what kind of ratings they get. Have the big magazines reviewed them yet?
On a side note; what was with the music in the video with the horses? And did anyone else expect to see the horses riding into each other, or a near miss; like in jousting?

Still has same prob as for last couple of years - SLOW.
Think about how far u will travel at 60mph while the airbagjacket inflates. Info. below means U will travel ~ 44 to 22 ft before inflation.
BUT- I hear Dainese is working on one....
60mph=88ft/sec
From their site:
It's inflation in about 0.2 to 0.5 second, and will develop an armour of extra protection to the most vulnerable parts of the rider body such as the neck area, chest area, back area and the spine area.

Do you really want to hook and unhook the jacket everytime you get on and off your bike.
It would suck if you forget to unhook the vest and accidently pull the safety ripchord that inflates the vest and I'm sure many people will at many times forget they must unhook the vest first and have to get the vest repaired and reinflated.

thanks bones...
it's an interesting concept, but i don't think I'd wear one unless it looked as cool as my rocket leather...
if it looked just like my jacket but with added safety, sure I'd wear it...
why not?
wasn't this concept originally designed for workers falling off of roofs and tall buildings?

if i were that anal about every safety precaution i could take.... i'd drive a volvo station wagon, and not ride a bike.... no thanks, not for me
