Serious Desktop Shortcut Problem?

All of my desktop icons are now linked to the same program. I went to open up word, and my computer said something like program you are looking for is not on a list on your computer or something weird like that. It gave me the option to choose a program to run through. So i clicked browse and it opened. Except now whatever i click on opens as word... If i click firefox it opens as word. if i go to accessories then calculator it opens as word. All of the icons are as word. I've found out if i right click and go to open as, i can browse through and pick the correct program to open with, but it doesnt stay. I have to do it each and every time

make sure your pc is not infected with virus a through virus scanning if no virus found then you do some manual work

for example you have the Internet Explorer Browser icon in your desktop right mouse click on the icon a property sheet is appear ...there you can see target were falsely narrated the path of MS word delete it and put the correct location path of Internet Explorer ie.

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

below that you can see Start in put this there %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% (only applied forInternet Explorer)

    same as others

this also not working to you the reinstall your os and others

You might have a bug in your system and restoring may fix it.

(this applies to most windows version except Vista)

    Another option is to:

    click on "start"

    click on "run"

type in "explorer" and press ok (or short cut press the window key and "E")

in the top menu click on "tools" then click on "folder option".

    Then the third tab.

There you can assign different applications to different file extensions.

Be careful with what you are doing there...

Check for viruses. Scan your computer for viruses. If could be cause of the problem. Try also system restore. But I suggested to full your PC for possible viruses. If still your problem persist I suggestion back up all your data and format your HDD.

    Good Luck.
