Question about casein at bedtime and muscle gain?

I want to add casein before bedtime to increase muscle. I don't have big goals of bulkiness, I just want some muscle and lose some fat. I know casein is a milk protein, so what is the difference between taking a casein shake vs. eating cottage cheese vs. drinking a glass of milk? How much casein should I take before bedtime without taking in too many calories?

Update:

I haven't bought casein powder. I just wondered if eating cottage cheese or drinking milk is the same thing. I have heard to eat cottage cheese, but haven't heard anyone say to drink milk. Is it the same thing?

Update 2:

Oh, and yes, I am lifting weights. I have a heavy day and 2 lower weight/high rep days each week. Plus 3-4 days of cardio (sometimes I double up doing weights and cardio on the same day).

You actually bought casein powder. HA! No really are you lifting weights? If not don't take anything, but if you are just drink a glass or 2 of milk before you go to bed.
