Why do people blush, physiologically?
what is the purpose of blushing? did it form as an evolutionary mechanism to benefit something? the question was brought up in my Anatomy class, but unfortuantely the teacher did not know.

Blushing is a defensive stress reaction. It happens when people feel vulnerable and exposed, such as when they're embarrassed by something. You're right that it was developed by an evolutionary means.
Blushing is related to how people and animals feel when they're attacked. Their bodies mobilize to fight or to run away. In addition to generating all sorts of stress hormones, part of the body's mobilization system entails bringing much of the body's blood away from the body's extremities, and toward the heart and the center of the body, so that the organism can react intensely to fight or run away. That accounts for the face flushing.
