Who here thinks the credit crisis is all Bush and the Republicans fault?

read this NY TIMES article from September 1999.... the blame definitely falls on more than just republicans... people need to realize EVERYONE shares in the crisis

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9c0...

Update:

The fault goes all the way down to the individuals... all of us.... we are a credit driven society that loves to live outside it's means.... we need to learn a lesson like Japan there people actually SAVE money but they had to pay a price before they learned that lesson

Your exactly right. The country's economic problems have worsened in the past two years and what people need to realize is that it is mostly democrats running the show. Bush did not put us here alone. I don't really care for him, but he's really not to blame for the position we are in now.

Its the fault of lobbyists and greed and deregulation. There are good and bad in both parties. But reading a 9 year old article shows the difference in attitudes towards The People . When Clinton pushed for increased access to credit, there was more money available, housing was rising, 9/11 hadn't happened (that was on GWB's watch), Social Security was safe, and our national debt was on it's way to being managed with a light at the end of the tunnel. To have GWB continue these policies with a huge national debt being created, devaluing our money, and the resulting recession sure to cause defaulting, with the Republican party totally in control in Washington, maybe they should have done something, maybe not spend money they didn't have, (set an example for the individuals they are blaming now), maybe tighten up on the loans, You know the Republicans are the ones who claim to have all the answers with the trickle down theory, tax cuts for the rich etc and they were in power ever since GWB and Darth Cheney got elected. Thats why I don't go for 4 more years.

I don`t blame Bush Jr. for the republicans freely giving our commercial might as a results of fact it began with Reagan lifting fee lists and Clinton did no longer help by using signing the Republican NAFTA contract. I blame Bush for ignoring 911warnings by using his head of anti-terrorism and invading a rustic that had no longer something to do with 911. despite the fact that I do credit Bush for identifying to purchase greater human beings then ever politically energetic that for the time of any different case would not have.

Democratic housing policies and Republican deregulation worked together to cause this problem. The thing is there were to many opposing idealogies at work and not enough bi-partisan compromises. It's pointless to throw blame around now. Democrates need to tone down their push for housing and republicans need to realise that more regulation isn't always a bad thing. The divide is growing.

Not only that but at that same time, 91-98 Barny Frank was on the banking committee, he also had a relationship (they lived together) with a guy named Herb Moses, who at the time was the assistant director of new initiatives at Fannie Mae, which of course the Banking committee had over site of.

Now they are being investigated for conflict of interest.

I hope both of them go to jail!

P.S. Clinton was in office during this time.

  • Democrats blocked legislation to tighten the reins on fannie & freddie put up by McCain in 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006 because they didn't want their "pay offs" to dry up.

Ask obama why Democrats didn't do anything when they HAD BEEN WARNED, he was one of the Democrats filling his face at the trough.

I blame both sides, they should have taken McCains warnings back in 04 to heart, Chris Dodd and Robert Byrd out to hung for there NON oversight rolls and so should Kerry on the Finance Committee!

The ONLY entity mentioned in the article was Democratic,

THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION!! Not one Republican was mentioned and you can bet, if ANY Republican was responsible the liberal media would be on his *** like white on rice! This is the quote from YOUR article.

"Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people..."

When you point one finger there are four more pointing back at you! Its shared blame, when it began to happen NO ONE did anything to stop it they just pushed it under a rug, or better yet kept reading to the children. A lot has been done in the past four years that has turned our economy upside down but it was bound to happen sooner or later. It was not just the war but wall street has been on the verge of falling

  • Sure, Janet Reno threatening to use her justice department to go after banks that didn't loan to credit risks (right after torching David Koresh and sending that Cuban kid back to castro) are pure Republican plots to destroy the economy.

Guess that helmet party with barney Frank and the Fannie mae exec didn't include Larry Craig or Mark Foley. Jim Mc Greevey was their serving sausage.

I believe it was everyone in Washington, D.C., period. They all had a hand in it, no matter what party. Bush did not have the power to do that. Let's just pretend we aren't at war, and the whole thing collapsed. (which it would have under those circumstances too) It's not the war that caused it.
