I keep seeing alot of people talking about "rapture" in this section. What does that mean?

I have heard of it before but I don't know what it is.

Update:

Thanks...I thought it had to be some wacko fundie notion.

I saw this bumper sticker the other day that said "in case of rapture this car will be unmanned"

It is a term which has been coined to describe an event which Scripture is clear will happen. It is based on 1Thessalonians 4, which says when Jesus returns, He will catch up the saints, both the dead (resurrection) and the living (rapture). The word translated "caught up" is, in the Latin translation, rapere, from which we get our word rapture. To those who would prefer the original language, the word is "harpadzo".

The timing of the rapture is debated among Christians, some believing it will happen before a seven year end time period, some believing it will happen sometime within that period, others at the end of it. There are a few other theories as well. The concept is Biblical (see also 1Corinthians 15:51-52), contrary to what some teach.

The word rapture is not in Gods Word. Some refer to it as if they are going to fly out of here and there will be some that are left behind..., which is totally false. Some try to "attach" the word rapture to the return of Christ by using a Latin translation; Problem is, the Bible was written and translated from the Hebrew and Greek. I refer to what the Bible says and the Bible says that the true Christ returns once more to gather back together His own and He will return at the last , the seventh trump. At His return, ALL will be changed from these mortal flesh bodies to our spiritual bodies and ALL will be with the LORD for 1000 years until the final Judgment Day.

It is the felonious belief that the 'saved' will not experience the great tribulation, but will be whisked magically away to heaven just before it begins. It is a bunch of poppycock! There is no such teaching in the Scriptures. Yes, one can, and allot do, take verses (or even parts of verses) out of context and twist them into what ever it is you want them to say, but for those of us who are true searchers of the Scriptures, we know the truth! We (that is the saved) WILL go through to the end, when Jesus comes in the clouds of Heaven to receive His own! "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved."Matthew 10:22." But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Matthew 24:13. "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:20. See also Mark 13:13; 1Corinthians 1:8; 1Corinthians 15:24; Revelation 2:26.

    Don't bother with it.

The idea comes from the Pauline sacrifice gospel that Jesus never preached. More on my biography.

It's a delusion, since many believe that regardless of what they have done in their lives, Jesus will come and save them all for simply believing something Paul taught. (Paul was not one of the 12 apostles.)

The rapture is a time when Jesus comes back and takes His believers to heaven....those dead or alive at the time.

Despite what other answerer's say...it is biblical.

that they are crazy christians that think any day now the end of the world will come and somehow they will be "saved" cause they have been such good little crazy christians.

The rapture is the belief that Jesus will come back and whisk all his believers up into heaven for all hell (haha) breaks loose.

It is not in the Bible.
