Christians, what do you think of this bumper sticker?

I just saw a car with a bumper sticker reading "I'm a scientist by default, a Christian by God's choice."

I thought it was interesting, given the way some (not all) Christians tend to distrust science.

So, Christians, what do you think of this statement? What does it mean to you? What is meant by "a Christian by God's choice"? What would you think of a person who displayed this slogan proudly on his car?

Generally speaking, I don't advertise my religious/spiritual beliefs with things like bumper stickers. Many of us who believe in God have absolutely no problem with things like science, logic, rational thought and evolution; they do not have to be in conflict. By me, God could have created the Big Bang, the physical laws of the universe, the evolutionary process, life on other planets, etc. If you believe we have free will...and I do...it would indicate that being a scientist and being a Christian are both the result of choices we make.

I'd like to say, "Hey, Brother/Sister." Science and religion go hand in hand. They are looking for the same thing, just in different ways. Science began out of the Church, but some decided to change the outlook from a God-focus to human-focus. By doing so, they lost themselves and many other people. I commend anyone who is a believing scientist. For those who will claim that you can't be a believing scientist, I say rubbish!

Your claim is that we do not think for ourselves. Again, rubbish!!! You must do more thinking as a believer than as a scientist. We will look at all ideas on where we came from and then throw out the ones that don't answer questions, fully. This includes the theory of evolution. To claim we came from chaos is preposterous. Physics proves it again and again with meteor showers. These are used as proof of the theory of relativity. It is measurable and proven time after time. However, evolutionary theory wants us to believe that we came from some common ancestor in pond scum. Evolutionists cannot begin to unravel how a paramecium was put together, especially the flagellum. It is irreduciably complex. Take any part out and it does not function. So how does evolution say that, over time, this incredible mechanism came about? I don't know and no one has answered that.

I am a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe in evolution as far as change within a specie. I do not and will not be able to believe in a common ancestor. Intelligence created the universe and everything in it. That theory answers our questions to a far better degree than anything that science has come up with. Every creation on earth was made by someone with intelligence. You can take that right back to the moment God began to create. Besides, in Genesis 1, in Hebrew, the first time the word create comes up its' meaning is created from nothing. The next time we see the word create it means what is around is used to create.

Most Christians really have no problem with science, or scientific theory for that matter. I love science, and excelled at all my science courses during my school days. But I still understand that some shady branches of science, such as Darwinian evolution, are highly theoretical and makes some (not all) claims that are entirely unfounded.

Also, I'm a Christian by MY choice, and by God's Grace.

Basically I think the person is saying that this was the carrer choice they made in light of their being a Christian but God had chosen them to be his child. It means to me this person knows where to place the importance in life.

God created science... so certainly no conflict there.

So, we are subject to, governed by the laws of science... gravity, physics, chemistry... all designed by God.

So the person is right... we live in a world of science, by default, but we don't put science first, we put the Creator first... by choice.

We worship the Creator, not the creation. And God chose us to be his people, to spend eternity with him.

By God's choice, this person seemed to mean that she has a natural inclination to be scientific, but she couldn't be a Christian without God. I agree with the bumpersticker and her pro-science sentiment.

He may be a scientist, but that doesn't necessarily mean "evolutionist". He also claims to be a Christian, and believes God chose him.

    I don't mind it - I'm happy for him.

BTW, I don't disbelieve REAL science, only evolution - because evolution is not part of science. It's a secular religion; a metaphysical research program.

It would not bother me. "A Christian by Gods choice" would most likely mean he is a Calvinist. I learned that on R&S.

I would say this person has confidence issues, and feels the need to project their identity in traffic.

I am also a scientist, and have an opinion on religion, but you can't tell from looking at my car.

I would think that is a cool bumper sticker and would have some respect for them.

    God chose me.
