Are there people who can actually decipher death metal growled lyrics?

Cannibal Corpse style...

All I hear is a bunch of "mouuuuhhh! Ouuuuurrrggghh! Wrouuuuuu!", which, now that I think of it, gives it a cow-ish sound...

MQ: Absolutely undecipherable songs (not by CC, please)

Update:

But I can still enjoy the music, it's just that I don't see the point in making lyrics that won't even be heard after... You can just hire a cow as well...

I can desipher the lyrics almost perfectly. It takes a lot of time of listening to it to be able too. By the way, I love most metal but I actually hate Cannibal Corpse because it all seems very childish to me.

Well, I can decipher some death metal growls really easily. Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquillity has a pretty clear voice when it comes to growling.

If you want something completely undecipherable, then check out this band.

EDIT: LOL, Jester I was just listening to Spawn of Possession. Yes, their vocalist Jonas Renvaktar growls so fast. He is almost inhuman like when he growls.

cannibal corpse is retarded anyway. it takes a certain kind of sick to WANT to listen to cannibal corpse lyrics. yeah all i hear is "devil possessed blender" noises too as i like to call them. i guess once ur hearing and musical intellect have deteriorated enough then u can understand the screaming/growling/farting coming from his mouth. i actually am sometimes impressed by the drumming and guitar playing in death metal but the vocals are retarded.

MA: Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana. seriously even to this day i occasionally have to look up the lyric sheets to understand the lyrics.

If a song has heavy music and is sung in a certain way people tend to not pay attention to the lyrics sad to say. Bob Dylan is hugely respected because he is easy to understand, but there are many brilliant metal lyricists out there equally as good as him.

    this made me laugh... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvf68xMG-3g&feature...

yeah i agree a lot of the lyrics are undecipherable... but in that sense, the vocals are more of an 'instrument' i suppose... i usually look up the lyrics, and if they are interesting i'll try to remember them... i.e. napalm death lyrics...

i have no idea what mortician are on about in their tunes, but judging by the song titles, i'm probably better off that way. i just love the way they 'sound'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdI7Ya0GiXg

I can't believe I'm answering this (me! Anti-growling!) but I think people who listen to something after awhile tend to be able to recognize what non-listeners cannot.

For instance - when I first began listening to Tarja, I could not understand one single word that came out of her mouth. That operatic style is something I'm STILL getting used to - I can usually understand Tarja now, but other operatic singers I have some trouble with. So I get how growling can be not understood at all.

MA: Dunno, I REALLY don't listen to songs with growling, lol.

  • CC isn't exactly a good band to represent death metal.

I can however understand growls yes.

if i read the lyrics then listen to the song i can kinda make out most of the words.

  • I would always just look up the lyrics. lol. Or just "mouuuuhhh! Ouuuuurrrggghhh! Wrouuuuuu!" along with them. haha.
