Por:
1) time ("por 3 horas" -> for 3 hours)
2) cause ("vine por ti" -> I came because of you)
3) transportation ("viajo por avión" -> I travel by plane)
4) after a passive verb ("fue escrito por G. G. Marquez" -> It was written by G. G. Marquez)
Para:
1) for the porpouse of, in order to ("Para venir, tuve que..." -> in order to come, i had to...)
2) to, or in the direction of ("voy para México" -> im going to México)
3)by or for, specific time ("lo necesito para hoy" -> i need it for today)
