To all people voting for the lesser of two evils...why?
Congress currently enjoys a 12% approval rating. These are people YOU voted into office. What is the common underlying factor? They're all Democrat or Republican. So why are you going to continue choosing from preselected partisan stooges who don't represent the will of the American people?
To those who are deeply committed to Obama and McCain, this question isn't for you, but rather for the fence sitters.
If you don't like either candidate, why do you reject choosing a third party candidate that better represents your values (the whole point of a "representative" government) instead of betting on the rigged two-horse race? Won't we always have a government that fails to represent us, if we choose candidates based on their chances of winning, rather than what they stand for?
Both Obama and McCain pushed for the bailout, while the majority of Americans were strongly against it. How can so many people still play the lesser-of-two-evils game after such a monumental betrayal of the middle class by both major candidates?
I'd like to address a couple things.
1. For the people who are not aware, most of your ballots will have more than 2 presidential contenders. Ralph Nader and Bob Barr are on the ballot in 45 states, and McKinney and Baldwin are on the ballot in somewhere around 40. You DO have more choices on election day than McCain and Obama.
2. I agree with the one poster about the Democratically controlled Congress being the main source of disapproval. However, this partisan observation doesn't change the fact that it was many Republicans in Congress who folded to lobbyists and passed the bailout. They stopped it the first time, but then caved to special interests.
3. To the knee-jerk people posting "Go Obama" or "Go McCain," please stop littering the board. I asked a real question, if you don't have a real answer go away.
4. To those who say that voting third party is "throwing away your vote," please explain why you think this, if you in fact really do not like either candidate.

I always vote and I can't vote for a socialist. If we had a reasonable candidate, I would vote for them. How is it my fault that I will continue to vote for the lesser of 2 evils? A vote for a 3rd party like Barr (like him more than McCain) is like voting for Barry since he can't win. 3rd party candidates NEVER win.
Last time I voted FOR a candidate was Reagan!

I understand and empathize.
The only way to be an effective voter is to vote for a person of principle, someone who’s ideals and goals closely match your own. If he happens to be a member of one of the major parties, fine, but chances of that are very slim because control of both major parties is in the hands of the economic elite, special interests, and PACs.
Pat Buchanan once said "Both Beltway parties offer bland and boring copies of each other.” The differences in the two parties are cosmetic at best. They are horses of the same likeness internally, but with different outward appearances. These appearances are carefully devised and cultured so as to fool the people into believing that they have alternative choices when, in fact, they are but 2 sides of the same coin.
Why is the 2 party system bad? Well I think that anyone with half a brain should already know the answer to that question but a simple way to look at it is like this:
-People would not buy ice cream at Baskin Robbins if they only sold crap and low-fat crap
-People would not go to McDonalds if their only options were a crap sandwich or a crap sandwich with pickles.
So, why do we continue to vote for the big 2, rather than for the person we feel will do the best job? Because the MSM and party loyalists tells us that a vote cast for a 3rd party is thrown away.
When the people you voted for sound exactly like those you voted against, you realize that your vote counts for absolutely nothing.

Well I do see your point but I want Obama to get elected because I do not want another 4 years under a Republican president...... To be fair I voted for a Green party senatorial candidate just because I want the idea of multiple parties to gain some legitimacy. But the Democratic senator is the one who will win.

Since the fall of Richard Nixon and his vice president Spiro Agnew within months of each other and political scandals of all types on both sides over the years, we have become increasingly more and more skeptical of our politicians. Also the fact that the last 8 years have been the worst in a long time, people are worried. We will only know in time weather we will have picked the best candidate. My money's on Obama

That is an old political term, meaning the candidate you favored is no longer in the running. It has nothing to do with evil. Like the common southern expression "Better the devil you know." Has nothing to do with the devil. Ron Paul had good ideas on revamping our foreign policy, and beyond that, was just another anti-choice neocon.

END THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM !!!!!
Some complete stranger told me that by voting Green Party 8 years ago, I "helped" Bush "steal" the election from Al Gore. Am I supposed to apologize because a candidate that actually quite closely represented my views (but still did not stand much of a chance against the Democratic and Republican WHORES) actually won enough votes to make a visible difference? Up yours, man!
PEOPLE, PLEASE! STOP ACTING LIKE STUPID BLIND SHEEP AND OPEN YOUR MIND TO MORE POSSIBILITIES- END THIS TWO PARTY SYSTEM OR WE ARE ALL DOOMED!!!!!

Ask all of the German people who followed Hitler, same thing, just want to be part of the bandwagon.
Obama's health care plan - "stand up to insurance companies" Who is supposed to stand up to the Insurance companies? Won't be Obama he'll be too busy being President.
Obama says he want's to Tax companies who are shipping jobs overseas - yet he supports bringing back the NAFTA act which originally sent jobs overseas.
These are just things from Obama's commercials, it frightens me on what lies just beneath the surface.

Who is our third choice who has even a remote chance of winning? Yes, I am voting for McCain because he is the lesser of 2 evils. If Democrats wanted me to vote Democrat then they shouldn't have selected the biggest joke of a candidate in American history.

Intellectually I agree with you. But realistically, I just can't pull the lever for a 3rd party candidate knowing that it increases the odds that Obama would be President. Any mistakes McCain will make... and I have no doubt there will be mistakes... will likely be reparable by a Conservative in office after him. But what Obama could do to this country with his socialist and radical agenda could be devastating and have profound ramifications for decades to come.

I don't like to have blame put on me as a voter ...for example " well you helped vote him in there"
well, no I didn't because I refused to pick between two lesser evils..
if I were going to vote, I would say obama, but I don't feel the need to be put in that position.
However, I really do not want Palin or McSame to win...that would be a catastrophy...
so "x" that I am going to vote ....Obama 2008 ya!
btw, if you want to give all the people who are voting for Obama a thumbs down, thats fine, its my choice to make, and you should feel ashamed of yourself.
