Driver's license Revoked, moving to TX?
I was offered a job making 2.5 times more than I currently make. Only problem is I currently live in TN and I had a previous DUI II conviction. However at this time in TN I qualify to get a restricted license. My dilemma is can I even get at least a restricted license in TX? I recieved my DUI II a year ago and the first DUI I received almost 6 years ago. My license issue is the only thing keeping me from taking the job. I hope someone has some good news for me, I have called the TX public safety and noone can give me a clear answer.
My first DUI WAS YEARS ago..this addressed to the person who said 6 months.....and as far as a drinking problem.....the first DUI I was not driving and it was the first time I had gone out in 2 years...I see it like this anyone who has ever drank alcohol could easily get a DUI only difference I got caught and you did not......no offense but truth is truth and I'm very regretful for what I did and do not drink and drive anymore.....I stay at home if I drink mostly...
Schurz, thanks for your information this does help....))
TexasCOP, I'm paying everything I need to and trying my best to clear everything. My question is, is there anyway I could get the restricted license at all, or should I give up the wonderful job opportunity, and say forget Texas....
Also I have tried to call the DPS is Texas and every person I get gives me a different answer and I can't get one clear answer.

Until you have a clear license from Tennessee, you won't be able to get anything other than an ID card in Texas.
There are no 'restricted licenses' in Texas, only order from the courts allowing a person to drive, say; to and from work only, between 6 AM and 6PM only, etc. and until you have a Texas license, you can't go to the courts for an order to allow that.
I would suggest you call DPS in Austin at 512/424-2600, that is the Drivers License office in Austrin TX.
I would work HARD on getting the Tennessee thing cleared up before you come down here.
Good Luck
Edit- Shurtz... there is no DMV in Texas. All DL's are through the DPS- Department of Public Safety

If your license is suspended or revoked in one state it can not be valid in another.
You will most likely have to wait it out or contact your local DMV. If you own property in TN then you can drive on your restricted license in TX if so permitted within the stipulations of a restricted license. Owning property in one state living in another is call dual residence. Whatever you do always keep your paperwork for the restricted driving privilege with you while driving should you get stopped.
Try TX DMV for information for driving on a restricted license and try TN DMV for the same information.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you need to take care of your drinking problem first, 2 DUI's 6 months apart not good at all. As far a license if you drink and drive that much you shouldn't legally be on the road anyway. Good Luck with that!

You need to call the Texas DMV, not the Department of Public Safety. There may be some hoops, but Im sure theres something you can get, but the DMV is who you need to ask.

Yes, you can get a special license in TX., for going to, and coming from work.; BUT if you abuse it, you will pay DEARLY. Texas has an extremely low tolerance for abuse of driving privileges ! I KNOW !!!
