I hear it a lot in the elections, but what do you consider to be a small business?

Based on what I have been reading many people have no idea what a small business is and how large it can be?

Update:

Volvo is a public traded company in Sweden. The factory here is just a branch of the larger company.

Update 2:

But the Volvo dealership is independently owned and operated which employs mechanics, loan people, and sales people. How will Obama'a tax plan affect them?

Its all very layman when they refer too small business. My wife is a PI for a small business owner. There bread and butter is pre-employment screenings. If nobodys hiring business is terrible. Under the current administration the job growth wasnt exactly a raving success. Yes Obama's tax break would help with advertising or upgraded systems. There are alot of small business well under 250,000 per year. Alot of landscape, handyman, tradesmen and so on......

Volvo's heavy truck division has 497 employees, they build giant tractors for road work and earth moving. That is deemed a small business by the US Govt. I don't think anyone would define that as a small business.

A small business in my opinion would be the company that perhaps cuts the grass at their plant, provides them with temp. help or cleans their offices.

If I'm not mistaken, businesses are taxed on profit not sales. In that case, most small businesses and a good number of mid size businesses make less then $250,000 in yearly profit.

To me, a small business could be a company that grosses anywhere between 150k- 250k annually. But I may be wrong. I personally am interested in opening up a bar and grill, so I guess I would be a small business owner.

If a small business pulls in 250K a year the owner does not take home 250k a year it's more like 40to50K a year that's the cost of running a business.

Obama is an Fool and is looking out for the poor uneducated trash in the inner cities that's all.
