The Constitution states that the V.P is "President of the Senate". It stipulates that the V.P. only casts a vote in the case of a tie.

Furthermore the Constitution designates the V.P. as first in line of succession if the President is unable to complete his term.

To me, the logical conclusion is that the V.P. is a senior official in the Senate.

My understanding is that the VP is maingly there to take over the role as president should something happen to the president-elect while that person is in office. The VP presides over the Senate, which in essence means that he breaks tie votes, not much else. The VP supports the President in his/her decisions, and administraton in general, and does some traveling to act as an advocate on issues and foreign policy. That's what I get, anyway.

What ever the President wants them to do. They also break ties in Congress. You can thank John Adams for this. He was such a buttinski that they limited the powers and influence the VP had over congress.

Can't believe Sarah didn't know this. Most people don't know that you are President of the Senate.
