Can a player drop kick the ball?

Yep, it's still legal. Any kick can be made with a dropkick, provided it's from behind the line of scrimmage.

It used to be pretty common in the old days, but you don't see it so much anymore, mainly because the ball used to be fatter and rounder, like a rugby ball. It took more reliable bounces. Then we made our ball skinnier and pointier when the forward pass was legalized, and the bounces became a lot less predictable.

Doug Flutie dropkicked an extra point in a Patriots game a few years ago. It was the first successful dropkick in the NFL in about 60 years.

it would want to be said as a punt if a goalie does it with there fingers yet that's in a lot of situations in reality to bathe the ball. If a container participant does it it would want to be said as a volley Thats not a drop kick a drop kick is even as u dop it it bouncies off the floor and u immediatly hit it

Any legal kick can be drop kicked. That goes in HS, college, and NFL

Yes, it is a field goal but it must touch the ground before it is kicked, in other words it isn't a punt, but the old bounce the ball off the field and kick it move, which can't be done with the current shaped football very easily.

yea it's legal, doug flutie actually drop kicked a field goal with the patriots...it's ineffective but you can do it
