Computer goes crazy...What could be causing this?

Maybe 2 or 3 times in the last couple of weeks my computer has just kind of gone crazy out of nowhere...everything on the screen gets really big and all the colors go all white and kind of random rainbow swirly looking. The mouse seems like it locks up and the cursor won't move. The only way I've found that will make it stop it is to turn the computer off by flipping the switch on my surge protector and then turning it back on.

I have a compaq computer that is about 7 years old. It's been a really great computer but lately it seems to have gotten slower and now it's doing this.

Any ideas on what might be happening? Do you think it's just because it's an older computer or is something else causing this?

Well if all your icons are going big and the color seems to be changing that pretty much sounds like its your video card if you have one and also try cleaning out your computer go to wal mart buy some air duster or use pressured air and clean it out if theres any dust bunnies that may be the problems. And if that doesn't work then try reinstalling the drivers for your video card (try this before anything else that I said)

Check to see what you loaded last. Blue screens are caused by driver corruption in general, but can also be caused by virus or trojans. Boot and hit the F8 key before you get to the windows screen, select the last known good configuration, see what happens. Also I would try running it Safe mode next. You could also run a repair process by inserting the OS cd and selecting the Repair option.

    It's a grpahics/resolution conflict.

Doing a system restore/virus scan would be a good idea. (Display driver corrupted?)

Newer computer is always the best solution if you can afford it (computers that were 1.2k$ last year are like 400$ this year. Really good computers 800$-1.2k$).

I had the same problem, then it just stopped turning on at all. i'd try asking a preofessional, because it is a pain.
