Claims of inventing God. Is it fact or opinion?
Fellow members of the board:
There have been many fresh claims tonight about mankind inventing God. Perhaps I missed a history channel episode, I don't know.
I will believe your claim if you can validate it as fact.
Otherwise it's just an opinion, right?
Please provide a factual basis that supports the claim that God was invented. (names, places, events, chronology) I would really be interested to hear what all have to say. I'm hoping to hear something new with a different twist maybe
An excellent point is brought up regarding the Bible being written by man. The bible however does prove itself to be the inspired word of God. How so? I will briefly go over only one prophecy in the Bible that integrates into the real world.
The prophecy is of Cyrus, the king of Persia. Cyrus was king of Persia, yet chronologically intact prophecy was made that this man by his exact name would be king of Persia 150 years before he was born. This supports the claim of the Bible being the inspired word of God. It also shows God outside of the Bible. How could one make a claim of a man not born yet by exact name to become king of Persia. Surely the Persians weren't in on it. We all know how fond Persians are to Christians. If anything they would've avoided the prophecy to come true at all costs.

Here's an easy one:
Over three thousand gods have been described by mankind. If only one god exists, that means thousands have been just made up.

Without reading any of the other answers, I can tell you right now that the majority of the other answers, in fact probably the only logical ones, will claim that the burden of proof lies on you. Honestly it is impossible to prove the existence of the Christian God, even Jesus said "a generation of vipers craves a sign". Well okay maybe not those words exactly but something very much like it. Read MJLP for the exact quote, he said it a few times. I remember. Unfortunately the argument that man created God is just as believable, and that fact troubles me greatly but I cannot deny it. However it is more settling for my mind to believe that one omnipotent God is not understandable than that an entire civilization arose by chance in a chaotic, ununderstanable universe and needed a god so bad that they invented one themselves.

even the elect will be tricked. ok ill tell you this Jesus is the Son of God aka YHWH. This is how satan is trying to trick the elect first he tries to get man decieved by this European thing thats trying to work its way into america which is this very thing man invented god. America was doing just fine until they decided to eliminate prayer in school and crazy stuff like that now that europeans are doing so well with there euro and think they can deny christ and get away with it is very sad. But this is part of the bible too they have to create a messiah so that the prophecies can be fulfilled. America is the most powerful nation in the world and everyone one either adores her or hates her and they only hate becuase she is flowing with milk and honey and rules the entire world and who do we have to thank for that Jesus aka yashua because until recently mostly christians made up america now we have all diff. types of diff. beliefs but i personally will stick to Jesus he has brought me and my family and my country along way. Man cant invent what God already is, let alone man cant invent nothing alone without god. if they were without god they would be without life.

If he really exists where's your proff besides the bible which is all just hear say considering the fact that its been translated so many times and it a known fact that not every word from one language means the same thing in another. Besides the fact that some persons choice not to believe any Gods or Goddess' exist is up to them. If you believe in him why don't you believe in the others there's just as much proff if not more since there is some physical not just written that they exist?

Of all the theories held by the capacious and hospitable mind of man, atheism is the one that makes least sense.
The proofs for the existence of GOD have never been touched by the ridicule and jeers of the atheist. That notion still stands today.Laughter is all they have.Much like the ones that laughed at Noah for building the Arc so far away from water;it made no sense...until God showed up ???

best argument for God I think is "how could the big bang come from nothing? there must have been a original mover to get things going" also the way that things in nature seem to fit together, its chaotic, but it has the feel of organized chaos, the way life renews and recycles, can all the beauty of life be just a random coincidence? best argument against in my opinion is the no evidence argument, and specifically the "why doesn't God heal amputees?" argument, although many people have recovered from terminal illnesses or have been saved in ways that seem "miraculous" It never stands up to hard science at least not in a 100% way, still, there are so many "coincidence" that to me, it points to a supernatural world, this does not however, prove my or anyone Else's personal G(g)od or view of the supernatural, since all faiths have experienced such "miracles"

Well, the easiest argument for the invention of God through the works of man is the Bible. Man authored and wrote the Bible and as with any text, those things that cannot be historically proven (names, dates, places) generally fall under scrutiny and doubt. God is one of these things.
We have only man's word that the Bible is God's word.
EDIT: Sorry, focused on the Christian God. If that's not the one you're referring to, I can amend my statement to address any god or gods of your choosing.

A religion is sometime a source of happiness, and I would not deprive anyone of happiness. But it is a comfort appropriate for the weak, not for the strong. The great trouble with religion - any religion - is that a religionist, having accepted certain propositions by faith, cannot thereafter judge those propositions by evidence. One may bask at the warm fire of faith or choose to live in the bleak certainty of reason- but one cannot have both.

Ok - there are lots of actual sources for the Jesus story being a myth.
The best perhaps relates to Horus (who was worshipped in Egypt as well as the middle east after the Alexander invasions and in Rome after the Roman invasions).
In the Mennetich Stele, there is a story of Horus suffering from a scorpion bite where his mother then cries to Ra who, after three days, ressurects Horus.
In the Book of the Dead, Osiris pnah (scribe of God) describes the testing in the underworld, where horus holds the hands of the person judged by weighing their hearts (judgement). There are prayers in the Book which are very similar to the prayers to Jesus for forgiveness to save them from being thrown to the Crocodile on judgement.
Finally, Pyramid texts show the birth of Horus being adorned by three wise men and from his mother, the virgin Isis-Meri. It is noted that the father of Horus was dead at the time of his conception.

the christian god is man made, as are all other gods.
osiris is mentioned in the egyptian book of the dead as being the god that transcends time. the christian god is the beginning and the end, same thing different wording.
Osiris's son horus is referred to the king of the gods, jesus is the king of kings, same thing different wording.
all gods before the bible have been described as the one true god, now there is approximately 2,000+ gods not all of them can be the "one true god". which leads us to the conclusion that all gods are man made.

I find it amusing that people suppose that a Darwinian atheistic belief is harmless and scientifically based. There are many very credible scientists who believe that the evidence we have demonstrates creation. even the most atheist of scientists admit that there is no evidence of evolution and yet they stick to there beliefs. If people didn't believe in evolution then the holocaust in WW2 would not have happened , forcible sterilization of thousands of americans in the 20's would not have happened , appalling medical experiments conducted on people thought to be of lesser value would never have happened .
