  • Why is the Atheist animate and spend so much effort to oppose a God they don’t even believe in?

I don’t believe in drinking alcohol, but I don’t oppose people that drink responsibly. It’s their life.

I don’t believe in skydiving either, but I don’t oppose people that do. It;s their life

I don’t oppose people that refuse to believe in God either. It’s their life. If the Atheist don’t believe in God, why do they even bother opposing what they don’t believe in? Just don’t believe in it? I don’t spend a bunch of effort against skydiving just because I don’t believe in it

  • Am I a good candidate for Lasik surgery? Far sighted male at 53 yo. What results should I expect?

I hear lots of both good and bad about Lasik procedure. I am 53 and always had good focal vision until it began to faulter about 5 years ago. I noticed the past year that my blurred vision is progressing at an increased rate. (I figure this due to the way our eye shape changes as we age) If I get a Lasik now and my eye shape continues to change, won't I just wind up with blurred vision all over again? Can anyone please explain this whole Lasik thing in regard to RISKS, SUCCESS RATES AND AVERAGE EXPECTED RESULTS? I don't need to have the procedure itself explained, as I think I am aware of that for the most part. As said, I am 53, far sightedness is very good. Currently, my vision begins to blur at about 5 feet if that even matters. Whereas I could once read a newspaper if held it away from myself at arms length, now, I can no longer read a newspaper without readers of at least 1.25 or 1.50 magnification. I hate glasses for an endless list of reasons why. Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks so very much. Petey

  • In 1969 was it a hoax or did we really go to the moon.?

It is said that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that proves the trip was never made, and actually done in a remote studio. During the cold war,,the defense department's goal was to somehow show show soviet communism that we had rocket technology for ICBM's. Lastly, we know that the Van Allen belts would fry any living organism to a crisp even at great distance from it. What really happened?

  • Can my friend reverse his plea? What is all involved?

A friend of mine lives in a house where a probation search on another tenant (who is a probationer) was conducted. Before the PO's and police went inside, it was clearly explained to them about what is common area and what is the probationer's area, and what is private area. There were many witnesses to this. When the police went inside, it was as if they had not heard a single word that was said. The police opened all doors, popping their heads into private rooms. My friend was in the room and there was a paraphernalia device on the bed. He felt obligated to say it was his and not get the homeowner in trouble whom it actually belonged to. They then searched the entire room and found a very small usable amount ($10) in her dresser. He claimed this as well and is being charged with possession of a controlled substance. The Public Defender told him that if he did not plead guilty, he could be looking at 6 years or more if found guilty. He believes he was railroaded into pleading guilty for prop 36 instead of not guilty and taking a chance at such a meager amount that was gotten from conducting their search in a known private area. They claimed to understand very clearly just moments before they totally ignored the limitations of the warrant. They were even told they were going into private areas while they were doing it. They just sort of smiled and stuck their heads in anyway. There were many witnesses to this also. I have been told that they will just lie and say they were given permission to fully search, but their were at least 3 witnesses that will say the truth of what really happened. Does my friend have and recourse in reversing his plea and claiming not guilty since the search was highly illegal?

  • Can accupuncture cause nerve damage leaving a nerve sensation symptom?

Had my first treatment 3 weeks ago and still feel the nerve sensation when needle was placed in my hand, all through my right arm. Is much more intense now than when treatment was performed. Nerve sensation or pain in arm is especially more prominent after activity or use of arm. Needle were placed in palm of hand by pinky-ring finger area, back of shoulder in two spots. When I have the nerve sensation, it goes from my arm pit down to my hand. Rest helps but any activity and the sensation comes right back and it really beginning to irritate me. What the heck happened? I originally went for my back, which it fixed and back pain has long been gone, but this nerve sensation-like pain in my arm is diving me nuts, and it has not improved at all What is going on here. Does anyone know of this type of condition?

  • If the atheist had a home on the board, what would happen?

Since R & S is what they don't believe in, why not have a section for Atheism? That way they could discuss Atheism in their own section and have a place of their own. Is this a good idea? What would happen to R & S and their new area as well? Would it improve the Q & A board?

  • Believers: It is up to YOU! Is the plan not clear enough?

I read a bunch of answers a moment ago that suprised me.

Some people think that God or Jesus sends people to Hell, that it is up to Him. No it's not I say to you.

We are offered a gift of salvation of our souls because of what Christ did on the cross.

If we are willing to accept that and believe in it, that is great because Jesus said before he was crucified that there is no other way but through Him. That means you cant do it your own way, and trying to is denying his offering for the ride there. If you get the ticket via Jesus, you will be heaven bound. If you deny that ticket, what does that leave you? This is not The Father, Son or Holy Spirit's decision, It is our own. WE make the choice on where we are going, not God.

  • any wild or crazy service stories?

I've heard some bizarre ones in my time, like the lady in pep boys in the additive section looking for blinker fluid, or the guy who puts a connecting rod through the side of his block, and goes down to the auto store and buys 15 packs of JB Weld. Surely some of you might have some good parts and service stories. The lady who returns the tires at Nordstrom doesn't count.

  • why 2008? why not some other number then?

Wouldn't you say that something happened then? Did the whole world at that time (There were PLENTY of people around back then according to history) just decide to hit the reset button for no reason with the majority in agreement? Is B C and A D fictional? If so, please state the real date.

  • Prophecy is not proof?

Isaiah the prophet in the bible spoke of a king named Cyrus by his exact name, that he would be king of persia. This was about 120 years before Cyrus was born. Of course we know Cyrus was king of persia, and the persians were not fond of christians and would have done anything to keep the prophecy from coming true. But it did. It is all authenticated and was much published of this prophecy in persia by persians. (nothing to do with the bible except for the prophecy itself. This one prophecy holds odds in the multiple trillions to one, and it is authentically documented more outside of the bible than almost any other prophecy. The odds equate to guessing a mega million jackpot at least 8 times consecutively in a row (mathematically).

Doesn't that raise an eyebrow to the logical atheist? (Honestly)

I mean, if it is a fairy tale, then logically speaking wouldn't our true history a fairy tale too?

  • Nuclear Energy Waste is Buried. Does it make sense to you?

Here's some rough facts. Hold on to your chair. U-238 rods, after a given amount of sacrificial depletion are less stable, and not safely usable for nuclear reactors. Greater amounts of the lower portions of these rods actually become Plutonium.

    .

A conservative estimated half-life of the ore mix in this form is about 16 million years. To those not scientifically minded, this means that it would take 32 million years for the ore to theoretically no longer emit deadly radioactivity and be safe for open environment exposure

    The problem:

The best radioactive encasement that technology can produce to date is able to safely protect us from these deadly emissions for a generous estimate of 2200 years. After this amount of time the radioactivity will breach through the encasement.

    .

Currently, the only solution to this is to someday begin to pull the waste and put it into a new encasement. This is a very expensive solution that has not been fortified financially by the waste itself, and nothing is being given any serious considerations yet as we are just 'leaning on the current encasement plan" for now. We are hoping that someone will develop either a way to neutralize the waste, use it further for energy, or figure out a final stage burial method for these waste rods.

    .

In the meantime, we are still bury the waste every day.

I do know about nuclear energy and its great efficiency level. That no other pollutants are created and the only questionable area is the warming of sea water by certain power plants and the potential of catastrophic meltdown. These are some things to consider also.

Can we really call it "clean" power when we are left with such high potential waste. How safe are we if a plant were taken to a heavy artillery air strike?

I'm not talking about a threat to the birds that hang out on top of the reactor to keep warm either. Many plants and storage areas are not at all out in the middle of nowhere, and where is the middle of nowhere on a 25,000 circumfrance when it comes to depleted U-238 rods to Plutonium?

  • Claims of inventing God. Is it fact or opinion?

    Fellow members of the board:

There have been many fresh claims tonight about mankind inventing God. Perhaps I missed a history channel episode, I don't know.

I will believe your claim if you can validate it as fact.

Otherwise it's just an opinion, right?

Please provide a factual basis that supports the claim that God was invented. (names, places, events, chronology) I would really be interested to hear what all have to say. I'm hoping to hear something new with a different twist maybe

  • Automotive Departments in schools still take cars?

When I went to school, automotive departments in colleges would take in outside owned vehicles that needed repair so that the students could get hands on experience with actual repairs. The terms were variable, like as long as it takes. The owner pays for the parts and if they can afford it, makes a donation to the department. This worked out good for people that cannot afford to get the work done. The work is overseen by the teacher so it usually comes out fine even though there is a disclaimer.

Do they still do this at colleges that teach automotive repair? How would I find such a thing?
