Is it "El Chupacabra" or "La Chupacabra"?

Is it El Chupacabra or La Chupacabra? Or is it determined by the gender of the Chupacabra?

    I think most people now call it El Chupacabra, and yes it would be determined by the gender. I guess most people assume it will be a male goatsucker..

    The Chupacabras are a lovely couple. The husbands first name is Elmer, he prefers the diminutive and asks friends to call him El. Mrs. Chupacabra (née Sucubus) is named LaDonna. Her BFFs call her La.
