Is income redistribution really welfare in another name?
and that being said isn't welfare nothing more than buying a vote and a crutch for the political base Obama is hoping to encourage to vote?

How else can he get votes? He has no realistic policies.
A response to "pokeymaen": All taxes are not redistribution. Redistibution, or "spreading the wealth" as Obama calls it, is taking from those who have it (the rich), and giving it to those who don't. There are two serious flaws in this plan. Number one is, it's just plain wrong. Number two is that Obama has designated himself as the one who decides who is rich, and who is poor.

All taxes are an income redistribution. "Sharing the Wealth" I think is the statement you were getting at. Look I don't think taxes are fair at all, but this is an election about how you want tax dollars to be spent. Do you agree with the Iraq war and the amount of tax dollars that go toward it? What about tax dollars going towards off shore drilling, or finding alternative energy sources? Universal Health care, should we raise taxes on the wealthiest americans in a time of an economic crisis? Should we stick with Bush's tax cuts? There are so many issues at hand, the American public needs to research them all. I know I am going to vote for Obama, but I don't agree with either candidate on every issue.

No, welfare is temporarily helping out people who have just lost a job, had an emergency, or experienced another situation which has deprived them of most/all of their money. It was never meant to be a permanent thing. Income distribution is continuously taxing the rich (sometimes poor, as well) in order to try to provide "fair" government services for everyone. Most of the time this never works out and becomes a disaster that the country tries to cover up.

Progressive income taxation is income redistribution. McCain has no plans to abolish it.
