Why is it democrats dislike the 2nd amendment, but otherwise are for freedoms?
Like freedom of choice (abortion) and right to gay marriage and that type of thing.. but its usually democrats that want the gun control and other gun hindering policies, shouldn't that be a republican view? I'm not trying to insult either party here.. I'm seriously confused as to why this is on the side its on..

It is funny how the ACLU only fights for certain rights but never the 2nd Amendment and how those who hold the 2nd Amendment close always have to fight for it. I mean the 2nd Amendment is the 2nd amendment of the Bill of Rights. Abortion, gay marriage, etc. was never in our Forefather's thoughts. I also find it funny how I have to tolerate others way of life but they kick me and my rights to the curb because I own a gun.
They blame the guns for all the murder on the streets but do not think twice about ending an unborn child's life.

Well, actually many democrats (me for one) support all the civil rights, not just that one. Many of us aren't into guns, guns and more guns for all, but recognize that right and don't want to see it go away, we would just like to see maybe a little more regulation. I think that this issue is brought up to try to divide us once again. Republicans see any move to enforce existing gun laws or making new gun laws as a step towards outlawing them...which isn't very realistic. Or at least that is what the news media make it out to be.

Our current political parties have lost focus.
The traditional choices were between large government regulation or small government regulation.
The Democrats were the party of government regulation. Consider FDR with his new deal consisting of increased government regulation and socialist programs. And then LBJ with his Great Society which tripled the size of the federal government and enacted laws regulating nearly every facet of the individual's life.
The Republicans were the party of civil liberties. Consider Goldwater who was Pro-Choice, Pro-2nd Amendment, deregulating markets and free trade. And gays? Goldwater would have said, who cares? Let them do whatever they want.

Democrats are in favor of the freedom to go to school, go to the park, or walk down the street without having to worry about getting shot.
