Why did 61 Nobel Prize winners endorse Obama?

Why would some of the smartest people in the world endorse his policies? I don't get it? I though he was a socialist and is going to be bad for American?

Because they're smart enough to know that he's the better choice.

You don't necessarily have to be smart to win a Nobel Prize - I think Gore won one and he isn't even a scientist - although he pretends to be one, lol! Nobel prize winners tend to lean left politically so it is no surprise to me that 61 (as you say) are endorsing Obama.

I do believe that Obama wants to implement socialist ideas if elected, and for that reason I don't think he is the right leader for our country. America is a capitalist republic but unfortunately not many Americans know enough about our history and government to understand that.

Maybe you should listen to the Nobel Laureates and not whoever told you that Obama is a socialist that will be bad for America. Do you even know what a socialist is? Do some homework and don't be led by others.

If not, then the Nobel winners are smarter than you and that's all you have to know.

Most intelligent, thoughtful people are supporting Obama because they realize that he is our best choice to lead us forward.

You need to have an understanding of what Socialism actually means. It's not a dirty word ... and it's not a bad thing. It means (in simplified terms) that those of us who CAN provide, give to those who cannot. The term "socialism" is not an extremist concept ... it's just a matter of making sure that everyone is adequately cared for.

"Charity" is a form of socialism. Community service is socialism. Voluntarism is socialism.

Don't be so quick to condemn it. If you contribute a can of green beans to a community food-drive, you are participating in socialism. If you pay a few bucks to take a holiday house-tour with the benefits going to a community organization ... yep, that's socialism, too.

Donate your unneeded clothing to Goodwill ... you're a socialist. Contribute your pennies to your kid's school campaign that benefits a childrens' reading program at the local library ... yep, that's socialism.

Please be sure you understand what a word means before you use it in a derogatory sense.

i'm a liberal and that i'm questioning a similar element. They nominated him 12 days after he'd been in place of work--uh, why? What step forward did he make in 12 days that outshined the artwork of scientists and human rights activists have spent their finished careers on? i think of they gave it to him because of the fact he's united states of america's first black president. that in the process itself is an honor and massive distinction besides the undeniable fact that it does not warrant the nobel peace prize.

    In their own words:

"We especially applaud his emphasis during the campaign on the power of science and technology to enhance our nation’s competitiveness. In particular, we support the measures he plans to take – through new initiatives in education and training, expanded research funding, an unbiased process for obtaining scientific advice, and an appropriate balance of basic and applied research – to meet the nation’s and the world’s most urgent needs.

Senator Obama understands that Presidential leadership and federal investments in science and technology are crucial elements in successful governance of the world’s leading country. We hope you will join us as we work together to ensure his election in November."

Among those dingbat Nobel winners are Yasser Arafat and Saddam Hussein. Too bad, both are dead. They cannot endorse Obama. DamSad!

Source(s): From The World Almanac: Arafat won Nobel Peace prize in 1994. Saddam won it in 2003. Dah!

Clearly you have no concept of the miniscule percentage of Nobel laureates that represents.

What is of more interest to me is the number of times Obama has bucked his party on any issue. The answer is zero times in 6 years. That tells me all I need to know about putting someone with his track record in the White House. He is spineless.

For the same reason, german scientists endorsed Hitler. Smart people are poor judges of character.

Did you know that the Atom bomb was made by a Nobel Peace Prize winner? Ironic huh?
