Here's a good lesson about Obama's economic plan.

    BAR STOOL ECONOMICS

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for

    all ten comes to $100.

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go

    something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

    The fifth would pay $1.

    The sixth would pay $3.

    The seventh would pay $7.

    The eighth would pay $12.

    The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar

every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one

    day, the

    owner threw them a curve.

'Since you are all such good customers, he said, I'm going to

reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.

Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our

taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still

    drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How

could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get

    his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they

subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and

    the sixth man

would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar

    owner suggested

that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the

    same amount,

and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.!

    And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100%

    savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four

continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant,

    the men

    began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20, 'declared the sixth man. He

pointed to the tenth man, 'but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a

    dollar, too.

It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10

back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't

get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the

nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time

    to pay the

bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have

    enough

money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is

how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes

    get the

most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack

    them for being

wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they

    might start

drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.

For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible

Under Obama's plan, the bartender would have paid the first four

quys part of the $20 cost reduction even though they paid nothing. In

the old days this would have been called welfare. But Obama calls "tax

credits" to people who pay no income tax a "tax cut."

Great answer Vicki. I like the way that was put. I also have to strongly disagree that the AP leans to the right. It appears that most of the media feel that it is their job to get Obama elected.

I agree that all candidates who become president don't keep all the promises. That being said you will never convince an enthusiastic Obama supporter that "The One" won't be able to do it either.

Getting something for nothing should be the new motto in this country. So many want what someone with more money has but they don't want to put the time and effort into getting it. Welfare is a broken system so why enlarge it? If you didn't earn the money but the government gives it to you anyway its welfare.

It's easy to forgive your own guy. For example, I distinctly remember candidate George W. Bush speaking out against nation-building in the second presidential debate against Al Gore. I also remember candidate Bush favoring letting States decide what to do with same-sex marriage leaving the Federal government out of the debate. But four years later he changed his position and favored a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. Personally, I don't think the presence of a mandate is really the issue for those opposing the health reform bill. I think the opposition simply doesn't want the government involved, period. The topic of the mandate is simply an effort to create a wedge issue for those who are undecided. The mandate, in my view, is not a substantive change to the overall promise from Obama of health care reform but is rather a procedural one. However, the Bush promise of leaving the Federal government out of the same-sex marriage issue and then supporting a Constitutional amendment banning it's recognition by the States is a substantive change. One could argue the need to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan was the right thing to do after bombing them but it doesn't change the fact that Pres. Bush's initial opposition to nation building was clear and without caveats. I suppose it's your prerogative if you want to hold a politician accountable for every detail of a campaign promise not met. In my view, if the overall promise is met that's good enough for me. EDIT: Even if Bush wasn't 'your guy', the point remains the same. People are willing to overlook what they consider small things in exchange for the overall goal. Of course what is small to them may be huge to you. It's all very subjective.

The fact is they dont care. They are caught up in the mystic and a lto of them don't even know what is happening. When all of a sudden the magic number(250K) keeps dropping, they will stand their scratching their heads and say what?

However you can't blame many of them, since the media has been so biased that they fail to point out any shortcomings in him at all, let alone the pitfalls of his policies.

    Fact:

Raise taxes on struggling companies..mmm..ok. Yes some are doing well, however many are barely making it. The following results may vary however:

    1) Many businesses go under= Higher un employment, less people with disposible income=smaller retailers going under=etc.

    2) Many businesses go completly overseas= See above.

You will never convince an Obama supporter of that though.

For Vicki S above. The following is our current tax rate system:

    2000-2008 Tax Rates

    0-$8,025……..10%

    $8,025-$32,550….15%

    $32,550-$78,850…25%

    $78,850-$164,550…28%

    $164,550-$357,700…33%

    $357,700 +………….35%

Now do the math as above and you will see that we must already be socialists and Obama doesn't need to chage a thing. He is simply proposing a change in the rates for tax payers above $250K. Get it!

Now to the original question. Obama will not be able to accomplish all of his goals. No president ever has. Likewise McCain can not deliver all he has promised either. That said, I am voting for Obama because it is a change that this country needs.

The Cult of Obama do not care about such things.Change/Hope will only get you so far.AP leans to right that's funny....

By the way Vicki has the best answer!

Yeah I'm not putting too much faith in McCain backing up his campaign promises either. If he knew how to get Osama bin Laden then why didn't he share it with Bush? Why did we go into Iraq instead? They both lie, so don't point fingers.

Vicki S- The wealthiest man should pay the other men that work for him enough money to buy their own beer, instead of hiring men in other countries.....then the other beer drinkers could buy more of his stuff, and it wouldn't be such a burden picking up so much of the beer tab ;-)

I would take AP reporting with a block of salt. They skew their reporting to the right.
