If you were a GM would you sign Ken Griffey Jr. to a multi-year contract?

And if so, where would you play him? Please explain the reasoning behind your opinion. No divisive or bitter rants please! Thanks!

Well I guess it depends on what team I was a GM for right? If I was Brian Cashman (GM for the Yanks) then heck no I wouldn't sign him, but If I was a desperate team then maybe. The Mariners should sign him to a multi-year deal just because it will attract many viewers to see him in Seattle again.

it is an identical factor each couple years with Griffey. In 02 human beings pronounced he could retire at 32. In 04 after the hamstring got here off his bone human beings pronounced he does no longer be able to play ball lower back. He then got here lower back and hit .301 and 35 hrs. In 06 he had knee issues and human beings pronounced that he became into accomplished. Then 07 he hits twenty abode runs in 2 months and finally ends up with 30. each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days Griffey is "accomplished' there has been extra undesirable seasons than good in the final seven years, yet you cant count variety him out. He might have yet another resurgence like thomas did while he hit 39 a pair years in the past. he gets signed by using somebody, there is to lots ability for a good season. I provide him an identical line of 07 if given the possibility. Who will he sign for, who's easily-known with. i comprehend this, he will play in 09. P.S He could have extra potential now that he can plant that leg and he has lost approximately 15 pounds from what I even have heard, so as which could help. positioned him at DH in Seattle for 2 years so he can knock 25 to 35 abode runs out for a pair extra years! 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days six million dollar contract with a 2 million selection for a third 3 hundred and sixty 5 days

Only if I was an American League GM. At this point in his career, Griffey is still valuable as a hitter. Signing him to a multi-year deal would give me some options. I could DH him or use him in the outfield when necessary. If I were a National League GM, I'd be a little more cautious.

I would definitely take a shot on Griffey Jr. still. If youre an American league team, its a great idea with the DH rule. He's good for 20 HRs still.

For a National League team, its more of a putting fans in the stands thing. For example, if the Pirates signed him, people would come to the park just to see him play.

His best bet is to stay in the American League though so he can keep sluggin' dingers til he retires. It really stinks that if he would have stayed healthy he would have most certainly passed Bonds for the HR record.

Cough, cough cough...... ugh cough hack. Sorry I was drinking a pepsi when I read this and it was ejected out of my nose. I don't want to sound divisive but I can't answer this question and not be. Griffey was a good player but his time is up. Anything over a 1 year contract as a pinch hitter at this time would be ludicrous. I hope someone besides the Cubs signs him for 4 years at 7 million a year.

  • I would sign Griffey Jr. to a multi-year contract, he adds star power. he will put fans in the seats. He is still a little above average with the glove. In the American Leauge he can be a productive DH or first basememan. I still beleive he has at least four more (if injury free) years left if its in the American Leauge

I would consider a one-year deal but never a multi-year deal. He's getting up there in age and he's probably more injury prone now days than ever (he is already a fragile player). I think if I was in a GM position, I would rather have a prospect taking over the spot that needs to be filled.

We all know he's injury prone, but if the situation is right, he'd be worth it. He's still an above average hitter and I'd put him at DH if this was an AL team. He still has amazing plate discipline and can is great for lineup protection. Griffey is old, but he'd most likely take a discount for a two year contract.

absolutely i would sign him for a 2/3 year deal. nothing more or he will need a cane. He's arguably the best all around hitter in the last few decades. Age crept up on him, but he still a 20 hr guy who knows the game.

id say toronto 3 years DH. 21 milion
