I am a U.S. citizen married to a woman from the Ukraine and her stay in the US depends on our marriage?

How likely is it that we will be investigated by the INS and if we will, would they do surprise inspections? How closely do they watch us, if at all? We are 17 years apart in age and her sister lives close by. Should we take special precautions to prove our marriage? She does have her green card (got it about a month ago) and so far as we know, we have done everything we are supposed to do.

As others have said, you will likely never see or hear from USCIS (INS).

They do want proof at the interview for the green card, and they will ask for additional proof of a valid marriage when you apply to remove the conditional status in 2 years (unless they gave her an unconditional green card).

Showing up for "surprise inspections" is extremely rare, and only in cases where they suspect that the marriage is not real.

My (Ukrainian) wife and I have never been asked for such proof, but she keeps USCIS informed of any address changes (as required by law), we own property together, our car insurance has both of us on it, etc. These are all things USCIS can check through public records themselves.

Just live your lives as a normal married couple, make sure you have some bills in your name, and some in hers. Make sure her drivers license has the same address as yours, etc - all the things any couple that is married have.

Highly likely. Ukraine has a high number of women marrying americans JUST to get a green card and then dumping the husband when they get the green card.

Yes you should expect inspections and very intensive, intrusive and personal interviews.

You MUST prove that the marriage is genuine and that it is for love - on BOTH sides.

bills and leases in both names or bills in either his or her name and at the same address. joint bank account if you truly trust her, joint lease - bearing in mind she can kick you out and change the locks.

Also I hope you know for sure that she is not a h00ker. Some ukrainians are known to be h00kers.

My husband got his green-card through our marriage and we haven't had anyone come by. We did go through the interview where we were asked if we had a lease in both of our names (which we don't, because we didn't actually sign a lease), and actually none of our bills are in both of our names either (some are in his, some are in mine), and our interviewer didn't seem to have a problem with it. I guess if your case seems suspect to them they may do a check, but if everything is straight with you you should be fine.
